Anyone know anything about FMLA?

How does it work for fathers?

DH asked the HR lady at his office about it today.

She said "Oh, you don't have to do anything all you have to do is go online into the time system and request the time off"

I thought you had forms to get the doctor to fill out.

Also she told him he will get paid for the time off (we knew that) but that he will be charged 8 hours sick time a day while he is off.

That doesn't make sense to me. Why go through FMLA if you are being charged sick time too? Why not just take the sick time, KWIM?

He has enough sick time saved up (he has like 1000 hours) but he gets paid for that at the end of his career so if we don't have to use it I don't want to.
