Icon5 Breast pad recommendations?

Reading the needed for baby thread got me wondering about which ones you ladies found were the best.
I used the disposable (I think Lansinoh) last time because they stayed put but was thinking it would be better not to use the plastic-backed pads.
I found the reusable Avent ones didn't stay where they were supposed to in my bra...and I was a major leaker.

So what kinds do you all prefer?

I am also a major leaker! I leak so much it is crazy, I can't use the disposable ones at all, all of them give me thrush really bad and I leak through them anyways, I can't use the washable ones because they are just too small and I leak right through them, I even tried wearing two at a time on each side.

I have to use cloth diapers, the kind that don't come pre-folded, the ones that are just white and are also great for burp cloths, they take up a lot of room in my bra but I don't leak through them, once I get my milk suppy under controle and don't leak so much I use baby wash cloths or regular wash cloths, that is what works for me.
I know it sounds weird but it is the only thing that works for me, I have to sleep with them in too and I get a ton of them with each baby because I need to wash them once a day but I go through a ton a day and once they start to get to where I can't use them for pads anymore they are great for dusting and house work like that.

Lansinoh was the best for me. Didn't like Gerber's.

Ill have to remember the coth diaper thing and try that sometime. Im always willing to try something new. I do know that they do work great in the spit up dept, so Im sure theyll work great in the leakage dept as well.

At first I just used the paper ones and I hated them all. Later I used Lily Padz and they are awesome! They are reusable and they keep your nipple compressed so you don't leak. They also are very flat so you can't seem them through your clothes.

I ordered all mine from etsy.com from various stores there. They are the cloth, washable type that are completely free of any toxins, chemicals, plastics, non-breathable materials, etc.

Oh, I used to use the store bought washables and they always bothered me, made me itchy.

Where do you get the Lily Padz Ashlee? I may check into that.

I was also thinking about asking my step-mom (who sews quite a bit) about possibly making me some reusables out of the prefolded cloth diapers. I'll bet you could get 4 out of each diaper, even folding the two outside edges across the padded part of the diaper before sewing. I might try to do it myself, but she has a serger on her machine and that would keep the edges neat. Guess I could sew the initial circles and then take them to her just to serge the edges.

Shannon - I remember ordering mine online, but I think you can get them at Target now. Just do a google search.

lurking from breastfeeding....

when i was nursing i used bravado washables ( Bravado! Designs) at home because i hated the waste. i was a major overproducer ( still am...that's another long story...) so i still would leak through washables at times.

i found that lansinoh pads were the only ones i never leaked through...i hated that they were another thing in the garbage, but when i had to go out, they were great. otherwise, the bravado ones were great. really comfy and washed well.

BTW< their bras and tanks are great too

I prefer hemp. It's so absorbent, and easy to wash. If I'm going to be out a lot or out of town, I use the Gerber disposibles. I like the ultra thins because, well, they are very thin, but also absorbent. There's no plastic backing and no weird gel stuff inside (like the Evenflo ones that have the disposible diaper stuff inside and get lumpy when wet--yuck!). I also don't like the ones that have the sticky tape stuff on the back because just when you think it's safely stuck on the inside of your bra cup, you'll stand up after nursing the baby with a nursing pad stuck to the outside of your clothes somewhere!

Pretty much any cloth diaper retailer will also sell cotton or hemp nursing pads... there are all kinds of fancy variations, but they are easy to make. You can use cloth diapers or even several layers of receiving blanket (also called diaper flannel, if you are buying the material).

Lily Padz are the greatest invention ever!!!! I was a major leaker and those white pads just slipped all around and I hate the way they show through clothes. Lily Padz stay put and they stop leaks, they are the best. Plus you can go bra-less if you want! I actually use them when not nursing if I'm wearing something clingy so there are no "headlight" issues. Welcome to the LilyPadz® Website!
