2 appt updates
I had an OB appt Monday and a perinatologist appt Tuesday, so there are some updates:
OB appt went well. DH doesn't go to those any more because the perinatoligst appts are much more important and he can't do both. So anyway, I took my mom. Poor woman was so excited because I've never taken her before. They almost always do an u/s but wouldn't you know it that yesterday was the day I got put into the only room without an u/s machine. She did get to hear the heartbeat which made her happy. HB was 161. All my tests came back good. Quad screen was good and apparently my 34 year old body has the same chance as a 21 year old to have a baby with Down's Syndrome - which is awesome. Too bad I don't look like a 21 year old any more! =) My blood work that would determine whether or not I have to do Lovenox twice a day or not came back good and I can continue doing it once a day. That was a nice relief. Last pregnancy when they suggested doing it twice a day, I started balwing on the exam table and they felt so badly for me that they just upped my dosage. This time I am much more used to giving myself shots so I would be okay if I needed to, but am thankful I don't!
Perinatologist appt was good too. I had the u/s tech I don't like (she is not friendly). I still get upset that they don't allow DH to bring Kate back with us. I am sure they don't want the u/s tech to be distracted by a baby while they are taking measurements. But, we see this as a family thing. This new baby is just as much a part of our family as Kate is and we want to do every appt as a family. So DH fed Kate in the waiting room. They do have DH and Kate come back after the measurements are done and the doctor comes in. All the measurements were good and the baby is no longer measuring ahead but one day behind. That makes me a bit nervous because this was around the time that Kate's weight started slowing down and that didn't work out too well. Hopefully this baby can maintain it's weight well. We did ask if it's likely that this baby will be small like Kate or if Kate was small due to all the trauma in my last pregnancy (sprained ankle, broken leg, blood clot, etc, etc...). He seems to think that part of her size was due to the trauma but can't be sure. I'm expecting this baby to be small and he's not making any guesses yet. We just have to keep monitoring it's growth. He does want me to start taking a baby aspirin. The Lovenox protects me from a blood clot but does not cross the placenta. He then went on to tell us that the baby could have a blood clot in the placenta - just what I wanted to hear! =( Tomorrow I have to go out and buy some baby aspirin. The baby was constantly moving and it was difficult to measure the heart. It changed positions twice! Funny thing is I rarely feel the baby move. Turns out my placenta covers my stomach so any kicks are cushioned. Thank goodness, because this baby is a mover and shaker on u/s! I imagine it won't feel pleasant after a while.
Speaking of... we did not find out the sex of the baby. We don't plan on it. We both think it's a girl. DH is convinced he's going to be a dad of all girls and I think it's a girl based on when we conceived. I have to tell you they checked the gender when he was in the waiting room with Kate and it took all I had to not find out. Last pregnancy he had to cover my eyes!
