Between bedrest and now feeding twins I've barely had time to know what day it is let along log on : ). But I wanted to at least put up my birth story before our Due in June forum is deleted, lol.
I'll try to keep it short.
At about 4:30am on June 7th (yes their bday is 6-7-8 : ) I woke up to labor pains. Mainly just felt like strong cramping that came and went. We were just at the perinatologist the day before and I grilled him about what I would feel once real labor started (mainly cause I wanted to know I wasn't experiencing any pre-term labor that would just have me posted up in the hospital again and no babies to show for it.) My pains contractions were every 5 minutes but I could get them to spread out every once in awhile if I changed positions. So I kept denying them. But 3 hours later and still having fairly solid contractions, I decided to call my doctor first before waking up my husband. Of course, the doctor says to come in to get checked out, so I wake up dh and, frustrated that I woke him up, gets out of bed and we head to the hospital.
Funny, cause as we're sitting there waiting to be admitted, my dh basically tells me that he thinks I'm hyperanalyzing things (like I'm not really experiencing labor.) It took me awhile to get what he was saying so I said "I hope I give birth today just to prove you wrong."
They post us up in a room, hook me up to IV's, then the charge nurse checks my cervix and finds that I'm 4 centimeters dialated. She announces that the babies are coming and that she'll set us up next in line for my csection (I was already scheduled for a csection since baby A was breach and baby B was transverse, so this was no surprise.) I quickly turn to my husband and shoot him the "I told you so" glare and informed him he was never to deny my mommy instincts again, lol.
I quickly get prepped for my surgery...btw, who else's epidural hurt like hell? My poor dh was about to pass out just watching me get it. The nurse even had to call out to get hims some crackers, juice and a cold towel and advised him to sit down, lol. They have it so hard don't they? lol
About 1.5 hours later I'm being wheeled into the surgery room and within 10 minutes they were pulling my little girl out. Of course I didn't see much, but I heard her little cry that sounded like a small duck quacking, lol. Within a minute my little boy enters this world and shortly after I heard his cry.
I always hear stories about the pressure you feel when they're working the babies out of you, but I really didn't feel much. But I did feel them taking my placenta out. That felt a little gross, but not painful.
After about a 1/2 hour I'm being taken into recovery where my little girl was brought in to get her first bath in front of us. Apparently my little boy had some problems breathing so they took him up to the transition unit (the one they go to right before NICU.) I didn't find out till later (my dh didn't want to worry me) that they found a hole in his lung and they wanted to get his blood sugar up. When they first told my dh about the hole, he basically broke down in the unit thinking they would have to do surgery or my boy wouldn't survive. Amazingly enough the hole healed itself within a couple of hours and is very common? I thought that to be strange, but they continued to run tests and took another xray during our stay in the hospital and he passed all with flying colors. My son also had to spend the last day in an incubator because he had trouble regulating his body temperature. But I'm happy to say that he's fully recovered, never spent a day in NICU and came home on time with his sister.
Whew...so mommyhood is a beautiful thing. I think my husband and I have a gotten a decent feeding schedule down so that I can get a good chunk of sleep while my dh still gets enough rest to go to work in the morning. My mother leaves tomorrow and we'll be on our own (no more free meals : ( but we're looking forward to having our house back.
Thanks for taking time to read my story, and making it all the way to the end. I still need to download their very first baby pics in the hospital, but here are some from our photographers blog of when the babies were just 10 days old.
Congrats to everyone who already have their precious babies at home with them, and good luck to the few ladies left to give birth : ).
