Will you get a private room?
I was reading a thread on DIA and was surprised at how many ladies said they would not get a private PP hospital room. I feel so lucky since the hospital I'm delivering in only has private PP rooms. It seems so unsanitary to have to share a bathroom with someone else who has just delivered...with all the blood and stuff.

Re: Will you get a private room?
The hospital I wil delivery in has rooms that 4 women share, rooms that 2 women share and private rooms. My insurance covers semi-private (a room that two women share) but I will be upgrading to a private room if one is available and will need to pay $50 a night to do that. (That's in Ontario, Canada).

Re: Will you get a private room?
I haven't had my hospital tour yet, but I believe they have only private rooms. I know I had a privte room with my DD and it was great! I couldn't imagine sharing. I feel like that private time with baby is so special.

Re: Will you get a private room?
Yep, all of the rooms at our hospital are private. I'm hoping for a "family room" as well. The regular rooms have a hospital bed, a pull out sofa, and a rocking chair -- the "family rooms" have a queen size bed, pull out sofa, a rocking chair, and table/chair set. They've made a lot more "family rooms" so I'm hoping to get lucky this time around, as I did with my first (but not with my twins)!

Re: Will you get a private room?
I am not sure what I will get.....It really depends if I will be here in Canada or down I Cali!!! Time will tell and I am sure I will just be getting what I get. I know up here in Canada at least in this town you do not overly get to pick.....it’s more first come first serve and where they have room.

Re: Will you get a private room?
The hospital I am delievering at and also work at only has private rooms in the whole hospital. The Couplet Care rooms even have a bed for dad. So we will both be staying there!

Re: Will you get a private room?
The hospital we are going to has private rooms & all have some kind of accommodation for the dad/family member to sleep. I think their largest rooms can hold 2 patients but they say it only happens once in a blue moon.
You also deliver in the same room that you stay in - everything tucks away to look like an average room. I really liked that. W/ my dd it was a different hospital & I was still numb from the epidural when it was time to move....

Re: Will you get a private room?
We have our own L&D suite where you labor, deliver and stay in PP. (you get a diffferent bed - more comfy - after you deliver, but same private room) They look like a room from a B&B, with a table, chairs, tv/dvd, closets, recliner- and that turns into a twin bed for hubby. and so very nicely decorated.

Re: Will you get a private room?
I honestly don't know where I am having this baby. If we are still here in town at the time Delaney is born it will be a private room with a toliet room. But the shower is in the hall and is shared (weird concept to me since both my kids were private rooms/private full baths).

Re: Will you get a private room?
The hospital we are delivering at only has a few private rooms. They say that if you need to share a room that you are put with someone who is being discharged that day. I hate the idea of sharing due to all the bleeding. We will see what happends...

Re: Will you get a private room?
Ours are all private and have a 2nd bed for someone to stay with you. It has a "nursery" right in the room and baby stays with you for EVERYTHING.

Re: Will you get a private room?
My hospital is pretty much the same thing as Tara81...and we're planning on upgrading from the semi-private to the private too. Last time I didn't have to...had a semi-private room all to myself! It must have been a quiet night when I was there!
BTW Tara, where are you from in Ontario?

Re: Will you get a private room?
The hospital I will be delivering at and also delivered my other babies only has private rooms. They are quite large too. The other hospital in town here has small rooms but they are private as well.
It also has a private bathroom. They have a lounge type chair that pulls out into a bed for dh. Not the greatest thing but better than nothing I guess.
The other thing I like is that you stay in the same room the entire time. Unless of course you have a c-section...
I really really love my privacy so im very thankful that I dont have to share a room with anyone.

The hospital I'm delivering at only has private rooms. I really wouldn't want to share and would certainly pay extra if I had to!

Re: Will you get a private room?
My hospital was actually under renovations in 2005 when I had Andrew to make all of the rooms private. Before, you got private automatically if you had a c-section, or if you had a vaginal and didn't get lucky and get a private you could upgrade for $60/night.

Re: Will you get a private room?
Either of the hospitals I might deliver at have only private rooms. Thank goodness for that! I definately would not feel comfortable sharing. Now I just need to make up my mind on which hospital to stay at!

Re: Will you get a private room?
I will definately have a private room. At my hospital you labor, deliver and stay PP in the same room. It's a suite. They don't have a bed for DH but they do have a couch/recliner that can accomodate him
