Default When do you move up a diaper size?

I always end up moving my kids up when the diapers start looking short, long before they reach the maximum weight for each size. Lucas is only about 7 pounds, but the newborn diapers are already looking too short. I think after this pack is gone I'll move him to the 1's.

If they seem too snug (waist or legs) or he's leaking, then I'd move to the next size. The weight is always tough as it can depend on the baby's build too.

Lurker
We never go by weight...it's such a major guess. If the diaper leaks you need to move up a size, or if they are too snug like PP said. Otherwise there is no point because it's cheaper to keep them in the smaller size as long as possible. Different brands make a difference, too. Luvs are built for square butts, Huggies and Pampers more rounded, and store brands have their own differences too. Sometimes if you're having a problem with leaks it's more due to the shape the diaper is made for than the size they are, so play a little bit when they are tiny since that stays pretty stable throughout life - once you find a brand that works well for you, try to stick with it.

Yep, like the pp's said I usually move up if we have leaks and it they are too snug in waist and legs.
