Awww...that totally sucks, dd got it at about 6 weeks, i was so frustrating, we had a really hard time getting it to go away too, I hated it, and was stupid enough tothink we didn't have to worry about that while nursing...
Oh, you poor dear! I remember how painful that is! Don't they say the otc athlete's foot medicine can be used? You might want to call your Dr. & ask on that one.
Oral Thush can only be treated with a prescription, definitely not anti fungal creams, that will work for a yeast infection around the vagina but still only use externally. Thrush is basically a yeast infection in the mouth. And it is white patches on the insides of the cheeks and on the lips, most babies have some white on their tongues and that is completely normal, you can tell by gently rubbing the white area with you finger or a soft cloth, if the white doesn't come off easily it's probably thrush...It can be pretty painful for the baby and make eating, especially nursing difficult, because they have to suck so much harder when nursing, and if the baby with thrush is nursing the mom needs a prescription as well for a cream for her nipples because she can get there and that can also be very painful and she and the baby can end up passing it back and forth...Not a fun situation.
oh trust me girl...I'm on baby #4 and we had thrush for FIVE MONTHS with each child...and we have it again this time. I'm not a believer in Nystatin for several reasons...for us it has NEVER worked. This time it appears I've kicked it for a while anyway by using the vaginal yeast inf. creams on me and wiping them off before she bf's...its been a wk now thrush free and i'm no longer using the cream.... here's to hoping! It gave me IMMEDIATE reflief though so try it!

Thrush doesn't have to be treated w/ a prescription... in fact some of them won't work because they contain sugar, which feeds yeast.
I had nipple-bleeding thrush with DS and tried several different options to clear it. Gentian violet works REALLY well, but stains. We used GSE and it was gone in 3 days flat.
GSE = GrapeFRUIT seed extract, not grapeseed extract. You can get it at most health food stores, or online. It has many more purposes than treating thrush, of course Anyway... from Dr. Jay Gordon:
HTH!!! It ain't fun when your LO turns into a bloodsucking vampire!
