So psyched - L&D tour

Just got home from our hospital's L&D tour and they have really neat practices here. First, you can have 3 support people in the room for labor delivery and recovery (all in the same room). 2 hours after delivery they take you to the postpartum ward for 2 (or 3 for c/s) days and you have a private room with an extra bed for whomever you want to stay with you the whole time (my Mommy

) The baby stays in the same room with you the whole time, and everything the nurses do (except circumcision) is done right in the room. They stressed that their goal is teaching you to care for the baby so you are ready to go home as confident as can be.

I really feel MUCH better knowing more of what to expect. And I confirmed that I have already pre-registered. Whew!

Isn't it nicer knowing what to expect! I'm glad you had a good visit at the L&D. It sounds like similar practices to the hospital I'm at...except we're only allowed 2 support people. Not much longer and you'll be a patient there!

Wow. Sounds perfect! I still need to do my tour. That's really good that you got pre-registered. Waiting around for an hour with contractions just to be admitted was NOT fun. I can't even imagine what it would be like when the real thing happens. I bet you feel so much better after that tour!

I remember when I was pregnant with DS, it was the hospital visit that made the whole pregnancy so much more "real". How exciting! I wont be doing one this time since it was only 2 years ago that DS was born plus I'm delivering at the same hospital.

Sounds great! The difference from our hospital is the 3 people thing, our just allows 2...

Apparently there are a lot of changes at our hospital just in the last year, so wouldn't avoid the tour if it's been over a year.

Good thinking - I asked my Dr. at the last visit if there have been any changes in the procedures in the last 4 years. He said it's pretty much the same there.
