Severe Migraine...
Alright I am at work right now. I came into work with a very mild migraine but then got a whif of a chemical and from then on it triggered a full on migraine which has only gotten worse. This is probably one of the worse migraines I have had (and i get them frequently). My vision is blurred, and my body aches. my skin is very sensitive to the touch. I am not sure what to do. My Dr. gave me vicodin for migraines and to only take the medicine if it's really bad....but the vicodin in the past has never helped, actually it almost makes it worse. My dr. said if it's a really bad migraine to go to the ER. I have never gone to the ER for a migraine...and I am not sure if i should. So I am not sure what to do? should I go or should i just try to wait it out. I have had it for about 9 hours....and i can barely stand it anymore. Has anyone of you gone to the ER for a migraine? I hope none of you have migraines...they are something I would never wish on anyone.
Any advice would be very much appreciated. I get off work at 11pm and debating on going then. Thanks Ladies.

Re: Severe Migraine...
I hope it goes away soon. I would go in, because they can be a symptom of something worse. Especially if it is one of the worst you've ever had. How is your BP? Please keep us posted.

Re: Severe Migraine...
If your doc suggested that you go in to the ER to get cked out then I would probably just do that to be on the safe side. You just never know...and the worst thing that will happen is a little wasted time if they can't do anything for ya- they send you home and tell you to take the meds that you already have. But at least the baby will be monitored and you will be too for a bit.
If you're still not sure about going in then maybe a call to your doc, or his exchange #, may be a good idea- just to touch bases and let him know what's going on...
I see that by now you should be off work...hopefully you are feeling better or are getting some kind of help. KUP!

Yeah, I'd agree about going to the ER if it's bad. They will take it seriously especially since you're pregnant. How is your blood pressure usually?

Re: Severe Migraine...
If it's after hours, I could call my doctor's after hours nurse. They are usually very helpful in determining whether to go to the ER right away or try to see the dr in the morning.
What did you end up doing? I hope it goes away, I do know how debilitating they can be.

Re: Severe Migraine...
Go to the ER! They can give you an injection (after determining safety in pregnancy) which will give you relief, and can rule out other potential problems like an aneurism! DO IT! (nursing student advise)

Re: Severe Migraine...
My concern would be pre-eclampsia...especially if you've been having high blood pressure along with the migraines. I was borderline last time near the end of pregnancy and had weekly(sometimes bi-weekly) NST tests to check on baby. But I know they can give you meds for it if you're far off from delivery. Let us know how you're doing!!

Re: Severe Migraine...
OH NO....I hope you feel better now and found some relief. I agree, I hope you went to the ER....they can monitor you and the baby and make sure you both react well to the med. I know they are HORRIBLE as my DH suffers from them and I hate seeing what they do to him.
Please keeps us posted on how you are doing. HUGS

Re: Severe Migraine...
Hey everyone, I am alright. I still have my migraine. We had planned on going to the ER last night, but my husband had his debit card stolen yesterday at work and didn't realize it until we needed it. We had no cash on me, no credit card, and I am waiting for my debit card in the mail. It's been a mess. I went home last night and took a vicodin and tried to sleep. I actually got to sleep but as soon as that medicine wore off I was up for good, and in major pain. I woke up at 5am and didn't get much rest or sleep after that. I did go to work for half the day today until I could take no more. I called my nurse she said to go into the walk in clinic. Which is fine, i guess. The dr. I saw was a sweet guy. I am very scared to take anything that may effect the baby, even vicodin but i was just desperate last night. The dr. I saw said he doesn't give narcotics to pregnant women, even if they do help he said that there are still things that can hurt the baby. He said he wouldn't do it because he would be up at night wondering if the baby is okay, etc. Which is good to hear a Dr. actually cares, let alone a walk in clinic dr. So he gave me some phenergan, and a steroid he says the OB approves of.
I still have my migraine, it's a tad better, but still not over it. He gave me a note to miss the next two days of work, but I hate missing work and I can't afford to do that right now. He says he wants me to stay home and rest so I can get over this. So we will see how I feel in the morning if my migraine has gotten any better. I will decide then if I should go to work or not.
Thanks Ladies for all the thoughts, I am sorry it took me so long to respond. I was having a hard time looking at a screen. And you are all right, I should have gone to the ER, and I wish I did....or wish i could. It was just my luck that he got his debit card stolen. ugh....Take care everyone, have a good night. I am going to try to sleep this sucker off.
Thanks again.
