Icon5 Sensitive Skin

It seems like Aspen has very sensitive skin. In the hospital we noticed some little hive like places on her legs, but didn't think too much about it. Now she keeps getting them everywhere, on her head, cheeks, legs, chest and her arms have a lot of them. I'm going out today to get some baby detergent and am going to rewash everything that's hers. I was using ALL free and clear detergent, thinking that would be ok. Any other ideas on what it could be? I'm hoping rewashing her clothes and blankets will make them go away. Could she be allergic to our dogs? Gosh, I hope not!! Or something in my milk?

Some babies' skin just take longer to adjust. Does it seem to bother her? Can't hurt to try Dreft tho, see if it helps. I hope it clears up soon!

My older dd has very sensitive skin too. My DH is allergic to All and Tide (even the free). We use Cheer Free and no dryer sheets. Just free & clear fabric softener. We also only use Aveeno to wash her and don't give her too many baths. And we slather on cream after every bath. It is a pain, but has really worked for her. Oh, and we wash all of our clothes in that detergent too so she doesn't have a reaction. Good luck. Hopefully Aspen's is just the newborn skin stuff and will be cleared up soon. (((hugs)))

wow. that has got to be stressful. Can't imagine it's your milk, and usually pet allergies don't develop this early (I'd think she'd get your immunity) I think the idea about washing your clothes in the dreft too is a good idea. I'd probably be sure to use an extra rinse cycle too.

i wanted to add if it gets worse and she is itchy... it could be an allergic reaction to something...maybe your eating? OR the dogs.... or whatever. My friends daughter has had it since birth .... it is horrible... it is like baby exima (however you speel it) And it took them a long time to even say....they still dont know what causes it 100 percent.... (although now they say dogs and cats and they got rid of them) So, i would definitely keep an eye on it. My friends poor baby all she did when she was that little was itch. Do they bother her?

Good luck... it is hard to tell when tehy are so little what they are in fact allergic too... and they cant really do any tests until they get a little older. I hope it is just the detergent for Aspen..... If not I would call a ped.

I know that the hormones in our milk can cause rashes/breakouts in our little ones -- do you think it's just that?!?! Our little one is breaking out on her face -- which I also had with my first one -- but was told that it is just the hormones working through our bodies....

Otherwise, it could be something you are eating -- although, I have never had that experience and not sure how to go about finding out the cause....

Good luck....I would start w/the Dreft (no fabric softener/sheet) and go from there.

I was also wondering if it could be your hormones in the breast milk. Both of my kiddos broke out when my hormones started changing, but I can not remember how old they were. I know it was before 1 one with my son because he was still broken out pretty good at his one month photo session. I think if you try new detergent, bath wash, and etc and she keeps breaking out I would call the pedi just to let them know.

Don't really have much advice. I know when I was a baby I had really sensitve skin, so not only did my mom wash my clothes in baby detergent, but she also had to wash her clothes in it as well, since she would hold me so often. Maybe try washing a few of your things too. Hope it clears up soon!
