Default Sarah - 24 hours after the flood

Her spirits are good and she really enjoys hearing from the ladies here. Thank You!

A little more info. They gave her a shot last night and will give her the 2nd one in 2 more hours, then the lungs are less risky, Apparently the latest info is that if they do a 24 hour magnesium drip, it will help the baby's brain like the steroid shots help the lungs, so that will finish at 2 am.

She has lost most of her water in kind of a blurp, blurp, blurp, swoosh episode. The ultrasound they did this morning shows Natalie is 3.75 pounds and strong. (she gave the u/s tech a good kick!) I have learned SO much. Apparently amniotic fluid is basically baby pee, so as long as Natalie stays put, she will continue making more. Of course, she keeps spewing more out too. The risk is actually infection. Once the membrane ruptures, you lose the protection from germs, etc that the amniotic sac provided. Sarah will have bi-weekly u/s until she delivers.

She has had contractions all day today, not painful but consistently about 5 minutes apart. She has not dialated at all. If she does dialate and labor they won't stop her at this point. Ideally they would like her to hit 34 weeks where they will deliver no matter what, but at this point her body is calling all the shots.

I personally think once they stop the magnesium (which also serves as a muscle relaxant to the uterus) she will continue into full blown labor. I got that impression by how the doctor came right in and did an internal when they saw the contractions, and everyone all day has asked about them.

I ran out this morning to buy her a few preemie outfits, as nothing we had was small. She loved that! Baby Natalie will have a short stint in the NICU (basically until she can regulate her own body temp and breathe on her own for 24 hours.) I grabbed preemie diapers too, Can't wait to open them to see if they are bigger than a Kleenex (lol).

The baby shower was cancelled and will be re-scheduled as a welcome home Natalie party. I guess we will become either a born in March or born in April family.

Till tomorrow...............Nancy
