Default Question for those who have been induced before

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, so I was induced due to pre-e the first 2 times I was pregnant...I had a natural birth other than the pitocin, no epi no drugs etc....this time i have so far shown no signs of pre-e and my doc is sure that it wont happen again (i guess it is unlikely to have it happen more than once, let alone 3 times unless you have BP issues normally) anyway, so I am again planning a natural drug free birth, and people keep telling me you wont believe the difference......anyone have any info on this or been there? people say that it will be much more controlled, and way less intense than with pitocin...and that it even does not hurt as badly...hmmmmm possible??? haha I just hope I get my way and am able to go into labor on my own to see what it is like...the whole surprise element would be nice for my last baby. I know it will still be very painful, but I had ds1 in 7 hours from 1st contraction and ds2 in 4 1/2 hours...and let me say that ds2 was wayyyyyyyworse, due to the intensity and quickness of it all.

SOOOO on that note...what do you guys think?

I've never gone into labour on my own before. I've been induced twice...it's horrible, as I'm sure you know. I've been told that the pitocin is an augmented version of what labour really should be like. Your body never gets the chance to get use to the contractions before the pitocin shoots it up a notch. I'd love to know what real labour is like too...if it's like pitocin induced or not as bad. Good luck...I hope you're able to go into labour on your own this time!

I was induced with my ds, but I didn't think the contractions were that bad until they broke my water. Once they did that, they were excruciating, but while my water was still intact they weren't that bad. Good luck!

With both of my previous labors, I have had pitocin to induce contractions after my water broke. With my first, before I had the epi, it was HORRIBLE. They gave me stadol, which made me feel drunk, and it wore off before they could get the epi in. When they finally did, I was finally able to get some sleep, and ended up sleeping all night. Total labor was 28 hours.
The second, when they started the pit, I was allowed to get the epi right away, and that labor was a BREEZE. That labor lasted 7 hours. I think the bigges difference between the two, besides the obvious fact that it was the second time my body was going through it, was I had a SIGNIFICANTLY better doctor than the first.

I was thinknig about that too... The first time my water broke BEFORE being induced - failure to progress... and the second time they broke my water AFTER being induced...both times were horrible...until I got the epi and I think it relaxed me enough cause I ended up delivering within 2 hours of getting it, both times....don't they say that with each subsequent delivery, your labour time is cut in half? (or does that only apply if you're being induced?)

Hmm, with my first, my wate broke and I labored at the hospital for about 8 hours before they gave me pitocin. The contractions were not nearly as bad as after the pit. but I also did not progress on my own, hence the reason for the pit. So it would be interesting if your body would do it quickly on it's own or not. But definitely there is more of a natural progression from when labor begins as the contractions get more and more intense. Good luck.

Holy moly, I hope not!!! My last labor was only 1 hour, 19 minutes from the first contraction/water breaking to the delivery of the first baby!! Had it not been for the OB taking her time getting there and the RN's getting me through labor, the whole thing probably would have only lasted 30 minutes from beginning to end!! Hehe....

That being said, I had pit with my first one, but only after the epidural slowed everything down. SOOOOO....I don't really know if my contractions were better/worse after -- as my middle was completely numbed! My second/third delivery was natural -- but sooooo quick! It must have been bearable, I got through it!

I was induced w/ my first & had an epidural.
With my second labor started on it's own & I didn't do any pain meds. The 2nd was much easier & the recovery much, much faster.
Good luck to you - I hope you have a great l&d.
