This is a discussion on postpartum bleeding within the Due in May forums, part of the Due Dates By Month category; I'm about a week and half past my c-section and was wondering how the new moms were doing ...
I'm about a week and half past my c-section and was wondering how the new moms were doing in this area. It was really like pink spotting when I came home and for several days. Then, as I felt better and did more, it's gotten heavier, which I know to be normal. But I wanted to know....at what point should the dr be notified. It seems that I'm more sore today than I have been, and the bleeding has increased. I'm not too worried, just wondering if ya'll are experiencing the same thing. I'm also completely off pain meds, so maybe that's why I'm feeling more than I have been.
I am 3 weeks postpartum tommarow and I am still bleeding, like a light period. Nothing that heavy, I know I was told to call only if I passed a clot larger than a golf ball or soaked a pad an hour, but if you are worried I would call, and maybe take it a little bit easier!!!!! (((Hugs)))
With my 2nd I had gone from the heavy to light bleeding after about a week and started to get up and do stuff around the house because I was feeling up to it. That brought back the heavier bleeding (though not big clots or anything) and also more cramping then I had been having. I went ahead and called in just to check, the doc had me come in and he put me on antibiotics because they were worried an infection may have been starting. I also got a stern talking to about getting up and doing too much so soon. He said that the return of the bright red bleeding meant that I was pushing myself too much and I needed to still be resting even though I felt up to doing more.
I'm not saying that the same will be true in your case...but you may just want to call in to see what they say. And also don'[t push yourself too much. When you notice an increase in the lochia or bleeding take it as a sign that it's time to slow down and rest up some for a while (easier said than done sometimes I know!) GL!

My bleeding with all three kids has lasted for 3-4 weeks and alternates between light spotting and heavier flow. I wouldn't worry unless you start passing large clots or bleed heavily.

I had a C-section as well. At first I barely had any bleeding at all, then last week it started like crazy, I thought I had gotten my period since I am unable to breastfeed. Kiara was born April 22nd and I'm still bleeding red, but no big clots or anything.
With my c/s I had very little bleeding. It was only like a light pink and that faded away after a couple of days. I bet you have probably been pushing yourself a little too much. Try to take it easy and see if it lets up some. If it doesn't I would just call your doc/nurse to be on the safe side. KUP!!!
i just finished week five postpartum and I'm STILL bleeding. the past week I've gotten so much more sore than I have been and my bleeding has increased. I called my nurse and she said that my period has probably started and it is aggravating the belly. and on top of that I'm probably overdoing things making the pain worse (because the blood was bright red).
She said I should try a heating pad and tylenol pm. (which was totally a tease because I can't take tylenol pm with a brand new baby in the house!)
She said she'd be more concerned about the pain if I was filling a pad an hour and I had a fever, which could indicate and infection.
Thanks ladies. I did call last night just to be sure, and he said I'm fine. Braedon took a tumble on Wednesday, and I was across the room, so I ran to him. He fell head first on our tile floor and didn't move or cry, so I kind of freaked, until I got to him and saw that he was ok. I know I shouldn't have done that but it was done before I could think about it. I told the dr about it, and he said I'm fine even with the running. So I'll just sit back and take it easy. The dr also said that BF'ing can cause heavier flow because it causes the uterus to contract.
