Icon14 Parental Class & Tour

Today I had my parental class....it was a whole day things and holy man what a long day. I am glad I went but at the same time it did not take any of my anxiety away I am still extremely scared of the birth process. Not the pain but the getting her out of me part.....LOL. I have had such huge anxiety about it and I was hoping that after my class I would feel better....BUT I simply don't. But I guess all I can do is take things as the come.

The second 1/2 of the class was far far better then the first....two different teachers and they had very different styles. The second lady was a much better speaker and the info was GREAT!!!

We got to have a full tour of the maternity ward too: D That was sooo great. They have had many new updates and I love how they have everything set up now. The birthing rooms are fabulous and have new beds that can do pretty much everything including get harder or softer......they are EXTREAMLY nice. You have your own shower where you can take your birthing ball in with you, they have an awesome recliner that you or your partner can use and they let you have as many ppl with you as you want. They are very nicely set up and encourage the moms to do what ever they like to feel comfortable and get through all the stages of labor. If you need to have a c-section they have an OR not far down the hall to use. Only dad can come in with you but if it’s an emergency and they have to do a general anesthetic then no one can come in with you....but it’s rare that that happens.

After the birth you (about 2 hours or so) you get taken to the post partum suits......they have 6 private, 1 semi private and 2 with room for 4 mom's. They will ALWAYS put you in a private unless they are already full.....but they try there best to give everyone a private room. Dads or coaches are allowed to stay 24 hours and they have cots you can use AND the best part.....your baby gets to stay with you 24/7 as long as there are no health risks They have also put in a new security system and the baby had a special band put on till you take them home so that if they get to close to any exit alarms and sirens go off and the ward gets locked down I am sooo happy about both things. They have everything set up to encourage family time and to help you bond with your baby....it’s truly great and the atmosphere is fabulous. I am very excited about that part

I am officially pre-registered now too. So anytime I need to head in there I am all set!!!

It was a good day all and all just very LONG and I am hurting some kind of bad.

Wow, you're hospital sounds great! Sounds very similar to the one I'm going to be delivering at!
I'm sorry that your class didnt seem to put your mind at ease any, but dont worry, everything will work out just fine with you and your baby girl!

It sounds like you are dealing with a good hospital! I am glad you are happy with what you saw and your tour. I'm a little slow....I realized you had troubles conceiving, but had the idea in my head you have already had children! Sorry bout that Birth is painful and tough, but the upside is that you know all that difficulty comes with a wonderful reward. For me, it was worth it all the way through with my DD. You will do great, I'm sure!

Wow, maybe I want to deliver in Chilliwack!!! I feel a bit ripped off about the new hospital here since it was suppose to open in May and now it's late August.
I swear prenatal classes sometimes are brutal, I remember leaving worried from mine but as DH pointed out it's their job to prepare you for "worst-case" stuff. You'll do fine, and it sounds like you have a great doctor!

Hmm, I still need to pre-register, thanks for the reminder.

heheheh....no worries Ann - Nope this is my first baby.....I am so excited and scared all at once. It took a long time to get here but I am glad it took so wrong as I have had life changes and it would not have been right to happen before. Funny how life works that way.....It makes me believe all the more that everything happens for a reason.

Wow, it sounds like an amazing day. I'm so glad your hospital is so nice.

And about labor, I was scared out of my mind the first time. It is overwhelming and pretty scary, just b/c it is so unknown. But it truly will work out. My labor was nothing like I was hoping or expecting, but it all worked out just fine in the end. It is all so worth it when they hand you that beautiful baby. You forget everything else as soon as you see them. You will do just great!! (((hugs)))

I hope you get some rest tonight and feel better soon.

Oh your hospital sounds great!!! I haven't had a tour of mine but I've been there when friends have had babys and I don't think its as nice as yours! Noone I know has had any complaints tho. That is awesome about the new security bracelets 2! That would def put my mind at ease. Dh and I were talking the other day about how cute the baby is going to be, and then he says, messing, as long as noone tries to swap our cute baby for their ugly one. We both laughed but of course since then I'm thinking about the stories I've heard of babies being swapped at birth! I'm sure that never happens anymore anyway.
As for being nervous about getting the baby out, I'm with ya on that one! It just seems so crazy that something so big can come out of there!!!!

Glad you had you class & tour. I liked the tour part so much - It made me feel way more prepared to see the place & get comfortable w/ the general plan & course of events.
I really know how you feel about being apprehensive about the actual birth. I felt that way before my first - like it just wasn't physically possible - in spite of all the science & pictures & the fact that women give birth everyday, somehow it still didn't seem like I could do that - but I did - I was so amazed.....
