Default Nurse and Pump?

Ok, I am really getting tired of pumping and nursing but I am afraid to stop. The LCs at the hospital kept saying to keep pumping for the 15 minutes every 3 hours even though I was making about 200ml and Dylan was only being tube fed 60ml, then he got formla for a week. My freezer is full and the whole pumping and dumping thing is getting depressing. Now that we are home, he is nursing pretty well (so much for nipple confusion he has been fed every possible way) and they said that I should keep pumping even when he starts nursing (she was mortifed that I was throwing milk away). But is that really necessary?? I don't want my milk to stop coming just because he is eating less than I used to pump. It also doesn't seem practicle because by the time I settle him down and get around to pumping it is only about an hour before he is hungry again. So basically my question is: Am I going to mess up my system if I stop pumping??

Also, does everyone else wear bras at night?? I hate wearing a bra to bed but if I don't use a nursing pad I wake up in a puddle. I have tried sticking them to my t-shirt but they never end up in the right spot.

Default Re: Nurse and Pump?

I'm sorry, I don't know about the pumping. I never pumped w/my dd#1. I would think your milk would eventually regulate itself based just on your son nursing. When they go through growth spurts your milk supply increases, so I would think that if you stopped pumping it would just reduce based on his nursing needs. You might be engorged for a few days. Maybe you could contact la leche league?

Anyway, about the bras for sleeping...I bought these from Target.
Medela Sleep Nursing Bra - White : Target

They are really soft and comfy. Last time, I had to wear something constantly b/c I leaked so much I would be soaked. I wanted to be prepared this time. Good luck!!
