How much should a two week old infant be sleeping? Aspen sleeps ALL the time. Like she is really only awake about an hour out of 24. Today she stayed awake a bit longer, like an hour and a half total. Is this normal? Max certainly didn't sleep this much. We were SO tired at this point it was ridiculous. Should I be concerned that she is sleeping too much?
Umm, not really...she just looks around. She makes good eye contact and is copying facial expressions (like sticking out her tongue if we do it). You think I should call the pedi?
Harrison sleeps a lot too. I always forget how much they sleep when they are newborns! He has JUST recently started being awake a little bit more but he was sleeping just as much as your little one at 2 weeks.

SAFE to going home.
Brandy I would not worry, Carter slept all the time like Aspen for the first 2 1/2 weeks, he was only awake and alert maybe 1/2 an hour and the other times when he was awake he was in and out of sleep so only 1/2 awake, I asked the pedi about it and she told me that it was normal, and that he should grow out of his sleepy stage by one month and boy was she right, at 3 weeks he started to be awake ALOT more esp. at night, and more alert and aware of what was going on like loud noises etc. I say just enjoy your sleepy little girl, she will open those eyes and see the world when she is good and ready!!!
Newborns sleep a lot!! Be thankful for it, it won't last forever! If it makes you feel better though call the ped, that's what they're there for and it beats worrying.
Lily is also pretty sleepy for the most part. She is awake 1-2 hours during the day, usually an hour or so in the morning and an hour at around 8pm. The rest of the time it's eating and back to sleep for her.
Sounds normal to me. All of our children have been that way...even at 6 mths all three of our kids sleep 18hrs out of 24hr day! So at this young...I'd say she's just very content...life for her is eating and sleeping

Mariah sleeps all day long too. She has a few wake periods during the day. Yesterday she had one short one, then last night kept me awake for 2 1/2 at about 2AM. I think I am dealing with a nocturnal baby! Ever night I get less a less sleep. I am starting to worry tonight I wont get any.

Olivia is right at 2 weeks today and is doing the exact same thing. She sleeps for an hour or 2 is up for feeding for a few minutes and is out again. She's awake the most in the middle of the night, but I swear she can't be awake for more than an hour or 2 the entire day!
Mackenzie sleeps lots but seems to be awake lots too. We have anywhere from 1-2 hours at different parts of the day and evening she is awake. At night I seem to be lucky so far as she sleeps 3-4 hour spurts and then after she eats she goes back to sleep but I do not overly stimulate her during her evening’s feedings. I also think our Amby Bed is helping dramatically as I can put her in it awake and she will go to sleep on her own....very nice at night. During the day she is out with me 100% but still sleeps a fair bit.
I think its very normal for them to sleep lots….I was thinking Mackenzie was odd for not sleeping as much but it just seems to be her routine…..I have to say I like that she is not up too much in the night!!!
