Icon10 Long drive during labor?

Anyone else planning to go to L&D far from your home? I had to ride in the car 8 miles with my DD, and that was torture. This time, my hospital is over 50 miles away. I can't imagine how awful it's going to be.
Anyone had to go this far in labor? Any tips for making the ride a bit more comfortable?

Oh man - 50 miles??!! That's far to me. The hospital we use just built a brand new facility on the opposite side of town, so it'll probably take us 25-30 minutes this time (compared to about 15 last time). Hopefully baby decides not to progress too fast.

I keep also thinking about if we have to stop and drop off DS at my IL's. That'll add another 10-15 minutes probably....yikes!

Hope that your drive is smooth and quick!

I'm about 30 mins from the hospital, but I kinda wish I could go even farther because there is this amazing looking hospital on the other side of town with a sign that says "family birthing suites." Doesn't that sound nice? *sigh* but my Dr doesn't deliver there. But as it is, I'm afraid I'm going to give birth on the way anyway! We better stock our car up with towels...

My hospital is about 45 minutes or so from my house. There is one down the street but I like the one that I had my boys at, plus my OB works out of Langley, so I do not want to change it up. I am a wee bit worried with this being my 4th that she may come fast and be a freeway baby. lol

Luckily our is only about 15 mins away. I could not imagine going 50 miles. Yikes. I'm sure you will be okay. Bringing a pillow for the road trip might come in handy. Good Luck!!!

Ours is about 10 minutes away, so I'm happy it's close. I guess you could put an extra blanket, pillow and towels in the car just in case.

Ours is on the other side of town...so 10 minutes if I hit all the green lights. It's a big change from where I had the other kids...it took 30-45 minutes to get there(moved since then). The OB may advise you to go in when contractions are further apart if you have a long drive....I'd ask to see what he/she would recommend when to go in.
