Lets just add to my fricken stress level!
I am so sick to my stomach right now I want to throw up. My husband came home for lunch today (very unusual). Well he finally spills the beans, he was layed off. We have medical insurance till the end of this month and thats it. We can't afford COBRA since we won't have any income. COBRA would be at least $800 a month.
We will have to move too. There is no way he will be able to find work here in town. Ideally we want to go back to Denver. Funny thing is moving back to Denver/Colorado has been our goal. But we wanted a job in place first! So needless to say I am quite upset and sad right now. I can't think straight.
Sigh......

Eeps, not good to hear at this point, that is for sure. I am not too sure how US medical works. Is there any coverage you can get until he finds another job? Here I am covered no matter what, but is there some fall back you can go to there? Best of luck with moving, and your dh's job hunt.

Oh no hon! That's awful news, i hope maybe Dh can find something quick so you guys can get what you need and where you need to be! Go in and apply for medical right away, I don't know how long it will take to get, but certainly get it applied for and etc so you don't loose prenatal care!

Oh, I'm so sorry. I'm sure you are very stressed and worried, but I truly hope all will work out for the best for you. I am hoping your DH will find a new job very soon. My DH finished school and we moved out of state on September 10, 2001. Yep, 1 day before 9/11. It was a very stressful time for us as no one was hiring at that time, but it all worked out just great in the long run. He has had an awesome job here ever since then. I really, really hope it is the same for you. Best wishes, and please keep us posted. You and your family are in my thoughts. (((Hugs)))

Oh Anne, I'm so so sorry. what crappy timing. I am sending all the positive thoughts that I can that your DH finds a new job right away. I'm here anytime you need to talk or vent.
Not sure if you remember but when Tianna was so sick in hospital Steve got laid off, it was such a scary time and we were panicking, it all worked out though as he found a new and better job where he is much happier. I pray the same happens for you and your DH.
Lots of hugs and positive job vibes.

Re: Lets just add to my fricken stress level!
Anne - We are all here for moral support. Go immediately to the local medicaid dept. Bring your birth cert and believe it or not, proof of pregnancy (get a note from your ob). Also something showing he was laid off. Because my parents insurance doesn't cover the baby at all, it's what I did. I was afraid it would "feel" like welfare, and the people would look down on me, but it hasn't been that way at all. Since my OB was part of the hospital's "group" they walked me over to a lady there that did it all for me. I've had multiple ultrasounds, and phenomenal care. It will be ok!

Re: Lets just add to my fricken stress level!
I can totally relate. DH got laid off right from his job of 12 years when we were about to start TTC. We decided to not let it ruin our plans and alter our life, so I went on COBRA by myself, which cost $420 a month (family option was just over $1K). We put DH and our son on a cheap crappy plan w/ Golden Rule through United Healthcare and it was about $160/month for both of them- not great coverage, but coverage which is all that matters. What you want to avoid is a lapse in coverage for more than 63 days- that's the magic number. You can definately get on Medicaid w/ no income though, so that's certainly an option at least for you. If you get on it Monday and DH gets a job Tuesday, they are required to cover the rest of your pregnancy I believe. I'd do everything you can though to not let DH and your kids lapse in coverage though, because if God forbid something happens, they'll NEVER get coverage for it down the road and it would be catastrophic for your family. I waited until the 62nd day after our coverage ended to put them on that plan and only had to pay them a month or 2. Everything will work out in the end though- we're all on DH's new employer's plan now and everything is going to be fine. Everything happens for a reason- remember that. This may be your push to go back to Denver and a blessing in disguise.
I have the man's name at Golden Rule that was very helpful to me- if you'd like it just let me know. You can ask him about starting coverage 62 days after your coverage ends and then back out if your DH has a job by then. Good luck.

So sorry to hear your Dh got laid off. Sending positive thoughts your way. Even though things do not seem so bright right now, in the end everything has a way of working out for the best. Good luck and keep your chin up.
