Jaundice
I took my little guy in to the pedi yesturday and he is jaundice. It was bad enought that we have to rent a bili blanket. He HATES it. It makes me so sad!
Had has to wear it 24 hours a day. We are going back in this afternoon to see how his levels are. Please pray that it has improve so much that he will not have to wear the bili blanket anymore b/c he hates it and it makes me so sad to see him sad!

Re: Jaundice
I'm sorry - my niece had jaundice, too! If you can get him to spend some time in the sunlight and feed him often to get him pooping, that helps a lot also.

Re: Jaundice
Aww, hang in there. My dd had a bit of jaundice & we had to take her in for checks those first few days. I hope he will get his #s down soon. What exactly is a bili blanket? Is it like the lights they use?

Re: Jaundice
Poor little guy! I hope his levels improve soon so he doesn't have to wear the blanket anymore. We had to deal with jaundice for a few days with my ds. His levels were always on the verge of having to use the bili blanket, but luckily we didn't have to...it was hard having to take him in everyday to have his levels checked though. They ran out of places to poke his foot

Re: Jaundice
My oldest was jaundiced too - we put him in front of the window and fed him often and that did the trick. The one good thing about jaundice is that jaundice babies tend to sleep a lot
Good luck!

Re: Jaundice
I hope that your little guy's bili numbers are down and there is no more need for the blanket!! It's always tough to watch them go through all the pokes and endure everything that comes along w/jaundice. We ended up home w/my first and then back in the hospital a few days later d/t high numbers -- he was under a hood all night! But it worked!!
Keep us posted!!

Re: Jaundice
Well, we took him to the doctor again and his numbers have gone down some so that is good. He still has to have the biliblanket on for 2 more days and we take him back in again monday morning to check his levels. We have been trying to expose him to lots of natural light and I feed him whenever I can b/c its supposed to help. He eats great and has lots of pee and poop so thats good..
My daughter was a little jaundice when she was born but all we had to do was expose her to natural light often and she was fine.
But with Harrison his levels were very high yesturday. Just a little bit under where we would have to have him in the hospital. Thankfully today they are a bit lower so he is showing improvement.
For those that asked... The biliblanket is this light thing that goes on his back and straps around his chest and has a tube that comes out of the bottom and hooks to a machine.

Re: Jaundice
I am so happy he is improving!!! I hope things go well over the weekend and you can stop using the blanket on Monday.
I know the nurce in the parental class I took said that staying to a consistant feeding schedule (every 2 to 2.5 hours) around the clock makes all the difference. Its great that he is eating well.
