Icon9 Infected Toe

Dylan's big toe is infected and I am not sure what to do. I think it is an ingrown toenail. I noticed it was red a couple days ago but he gets a bunch of red spots that go away. Now his big toe is all red and puffy. Of course it is Memorial Day so I can't call the Dr. (not exactly an emergency). I am going to look it up but I thought someone might know what to do. We are thinking something like neosprorin. I am sure it is not a big deal just don't know what is ok.

I'd pour hydrogen peroxide over it several times today to keep it clean. Peroxide doesn't hurt, and will kill germs - but the neosporin will be good too.

I would use polysporin as a short term fix til you can see the dr and get it checked out. BUT if there are signs of bad infection, like red streaks leading away from it or gross swelling, I would take him somewhere tonight (just thinking bite instead of toenail).

Thanks, I didn't think of peroxide. I will give that a try. I read online to soak it in water and apply an anitibiotic. Of course I hate looking stuff up online because they can make everything sound lifethreatening He hates the soaking in water part but I think it is helping. There are not any streaks and it is not grossly swollen, just enough to look painful .
