Just curious how old your baby will be before you take him or her "out in public". My daughter is a January baby so I waited 6 full weeks before we went anywhere!! It was a horrible year for the flu and I was a first-time mom, so I was being really cautious. Now that I have a May baby, I've totally got cabin fever since it's SOOO beautiful out!
Caleb's almost 3 weeks old & we went to the park today. I figured we were outside, no one touched him, he was in the front pack the whole time--we'd be fine. And we were!
But I still don't know when we'll go out, out... like to church, for instance.
What are you doing??
I think baby's first real outing will be to my mom's 4th grade classroom. Her kids have been so excitied to meet the baby and a few have even given us gifts. So I'll be bringing her the last day of school to see them all. My mom has already made it clear though that there will be no touching whatsoever. All the kids have to stay in there seats and I'll just stand in the front of the classroom with her. They'll be having a class party and it is the last day of school, so I'm sure most of them will be distracted anyways. Then after that we have my younger sister's high school graduation, but that will be outside, so I'm not too worried. Then we'll all go out to dinner. So baby's first day out is going to be quite a busy one.
well... i like you with me eldest..... he was born in the winter... JAn..... we stayed in pretty musch the whole 6 weeeks. lol Til we started vaccinating.... but we are putting it off with this one. Stones school graduation is June 4th. I would like to go.... and bring baby ..... i will see how i feel and how he is as a baby. I mean I would hate to miss my sons first graduation ever! lol The thought of it makes me sad I mean he will go with daddy regardless... so we will see....
I mean really I dont plan on staying in much either. I have had a long terrible pregnancy with all my aches and pains. I am looking forward to going out and NOT feeling like a watermellon is going to fall out of me! lol
Oh and we have a bday part June 21st. We will go to that for sure.
Tristan had already been out. Lol. The first I remember is us going to the dollar store on Mothers Day, but it may have been even before that. We were the same way with Aislyn.
Lurking...With DD, she was born at the end of March, so flu season was pretty much over but it didn't exactly feel like spring yet either, but we ended up back and forth at the dr's so much that I figured there couldn't really be any worse place than that for germs, so we went on small outings after just a week, to the grocery to pick up a few things etc...for me it was more about getting us both ready and out of the house, and she was nursing every 2 hours so it was hard, so longer outings were later...but that was more about me than her getting sick, and she never did, she was very healthy! I'm not sure what I'll do with this baby being born in November, I am paranoid of sickness in those first few weeks!!
We went out when baby was just a few days old. I needed to pick up a few things and we needed diapers and girl clothes. We've already been out several times since then too.....
My first was out at 6 days old -- but the twins took a while before we went out....probably just a couple of weeks though.
Just asked our pedi about this at our 2 week appt this week. He said taking her out now is fine, just keep her away from "close contact" with other kids until about 2 months. Otherwise have adults wash hands, but he said taking her out to the store or other outings should be fine. We've taken her briefly to Target & Walmart last week and I swear I almost freaked out the whole time as I am so paranoid of people not watching where they are going, etc. I can't wait to get more confident taking her out on my own!
We were out at 6 days - Brooke had a drs appt and at one week she had an u/s for a dimple at the base of her spine (everything is ok) and a breast feeding clinic appt which was at the mall so we shopped ; ) for girlie clothes.. we've been to BRU and groceries too - she is fine - DH and I have brutal chest colds now!

I always take my kiddos out right away, based on how I feel. My kids have never gotten sick from anyone until much later bc I do not hand them off or let others get too close. I took Nick to the mall to pick up my prescription on the way home from the hospital, Aiden shopping and to a baseball game at 2 days old, Joshua was at the park and grocery shopping at 4 days old. Course I might just be lucky as even my oldest has never had antibiotics.
Well, Reid has been all over the place. We went to a church picnic 2 days after I got out of the hospital. He was 5 days old. No one touched him, and I held him the whole time. He's gone to regular church services twice. He's been to a couple of Blake's t-ball games. A cousin's bday party this last weekend. We're going to Blake's pre-K graduation tonight. He's just a baby on the go, I guess. I don't think it's fair to make the older kids miss out on things because we have a baby. And DH works shift work, so alot of times, I have to take the kids to their activities. But everyone has been very good about keeping their distance, and only close family with 2 exceptions, has held him. I don't allow kids, not even mine, to touch him unless he's wrapped. No skin to skin contact at all for little kids.
We've always been pretty laid back about taking our babies out. With Max, he had so many appts right after we left the hospital we were out with him every day for about week. We took him to lunch while we were out and to stores. Nobody touched him or anything, so it was fine.
With Aspen, she's been pretty much everywhere as well. We took her to Max's soccer game the weekend after she was born. I just keep her in her pouch sling and it's not an issue.
We are going out for the first time tomorrow - to the Dr. If we have places to go Im sure we won't hesitate going. I plan on taking him to my job and showing him off in about 2 weeks
We took Carter out when he was one week old!, he went to church the day he turned a week old and Walmart also! In the last month we have been, LOTS of places, parks, friends houses, picnics, stores, resturants, malls, etc!! When people come up to him, I just ask them please not to touch (if I think they are going to)!!
We are always out within 2-3 days post birth~ I always need to get out of the house asap LOL

OK....I feel better reading this.....I was starting to think I was a bad mom at first as I have taken Mackenzie out lots already. The day we left the hospital we went out for dinner with my dad who I had not seen in 17 years (LONG storey....but happy ending) and she was 24 + hours old. Then my DH and I had to get some stuff done before he left and we took her but did not let anyone touch her and all was fine so far. I guess we never really though it was bad and just went with how I was feeling.

We have been out at least once a day since I got home from the hospital. No one has tried to touch her yet. I will probably wait to take her to church for a couple more weeks b/c I know people will want to have their hands all over her!
