Icon5 health insurance

my health insurance SUCKS!!!, I have a government healthcare plan, and they don't pay for anything, I spent half of today paying out medical bills (1500.00 dolllars worth) and I still have 1500 more coming in the mail... all before baby is even here!
anybody have any experience with secondary insurance coverage, or know of any good health insurance plans? I know it's kind of late in the game, but I am so frustrated right now, I don't know what else to do, i mean, 450.00 for an ultrasound? seriously, I may as well not have any insurance coverage!

any good suggestions would be incredibly helpful

EEEE.....I am sorry!!! I am not 100% up on how the insurance works in the US still. My DH has tried to explain it to me but I am still not completely clear. I know he has one of the top insurance you can get and even though I am in Canada I still can use his plan to cover what my Canadian insurance does not (Canada is a completely different system). BUT I do know a bit about Medicare (I think that’s what it’s called....the US Gov. version of it).

Have you guys applied for that? I know when my DH had his stroke in October he has NO insurance and he applied for that and they back dated his coverage and covered everything 100%.....we are SOOO thankful as his bill was over 43 thousand dollars. (This was Cali though and I am not sure if all the states have the same help for lower income). I know he did not have any kind of deductible to pay as he had been a collage student and had no income however they did use my Canadian income as our house hold income....but it still worked out and he qualified. I am truly thankful he is working now and has such great coverage through his employer.

If this is the insurance you have....I would suggest calling and talking to a worker and see if you can have a re-evaluation and see if they will / can cover some more then they are currently. Those bills seem so crazy high.....I am truly sorry you are going through all this.

Sorry I guess I really am not overly helpful.....I do wish you all the best and hope you find a solution.

you should check out your states medicaid options. I took it as a secondary (since I am still under my parents insurance) to cover the baby once she is born. It has really good coverage for pregnancies and babies and the best part is they are so nice and helpful and don't make you feel like a dirtbag for applying for it which is super amazing. I know here you have to make under a certain amount to qualify (which i do being a 21yr old part time worker lol)

We have crappy insurance too. We have to pay $2500 for baby gets here and then we are responsible for 20% of whatever is left after that. Crazy! My dh works for a really small company though, so we can't afford a great insurance plan. But after I have this baby we are dropping the maternity coverage part and hopefully we will have cheaper monthly premiums.

We have been blessed each time we have been pregnant and had a baby. The first we had Cigna through dh's work (and we weren't even married yet but I was still covered as a domestic partner, I think) and it paid for everything in full. These two, we have Tricare and they were/are covered in full. I don't know about Medicare as i've never used it,but I know it can help a lot, and there are clinics, too. Maybe call your local social services dept and they can help you.

Some states will automatically cover you on medicaid, and the baby after your delivery. See if yours is one of these states. They rarely have a copay, and when they do, it is minimal.

We applied for Medicaid this morning since my husband lost his job Feb 1st and our insurance ran out the end of February. We also applied for WIC and Food Stamps. I am not sure how long it will take for us to find out if we are covered or not. We got the paperwork they needed over to them this afternoon (they need bank statements, proof of pregnancy, pay off on our car, our rental agreement etc).

I know I am having a C-Section. The thought of being saddled with a 12-15K Doctor/Hospital/Anthesiologist bill makes me sick to my stomach. I really need Medicaid to be approved.

We had Cigna when I had my daughter and we never saw a bill. They covered everything! I think we had PacificCare with my son (we were in Colorado at the time) same with them.

I don't understand much about insurance here in US, although my husband is working for the same company he was in Brazil, the insurance there was better since we had everything we have here but without having to pay any copay... that said my friends here in US say I can't complain at all because we have a great insurance... so I'm counting on that.. hope you can get a secondary one or like the others said some kind of coverage from Medicare!

In the back of many baby magazines I have seen an advertisment that said "Pregnant and no Insurance?..Call this number" or something like that... maybe that will help?

Hubs has fantastic insurance. I just pay my office visits of $25 and that is it.. everything else is covered 100% Never got a single bill on my last pregnancy
Good luck .. I sure hope you can find something to help out.

Health insurance is a pain... I wish you luck!

We had my health insurance while DH was in school and it was okay... Once he got a job we immediately switched to his since his is much better.

I don't know much about insurance, but I agree with the other ladies. I'd check out Medicaid. I know in California they have a program called Healthy Families that helps out after the baby is born. Also in California they have a program called AIM that helps families who don't qualify for Medicaid.

About Healthy Families

Access for Infants and Mothers (AIM)

I'd check to see if your state offers something like this.
