Do you know if they will let one of the parent's give baby their first bath right after they are born? I was thinking about this today and was thinking that it would be something that dh might enjoy doing while I am in recovery. I've already asked that she come to recovery with me as soon as she is born instead of going to the nursery so that I can bf her right away. But I was wondering if they would let us bath her as well? Anyone ever given the first bath to their newborn? With Max they took him straight to the nursery after my c-section and gave him a bath there before bringing him back to me. I would like to have one of us do that if possible.

I remember with both kids that I had them with me for quite some time before they took them away for their first check-up after birth where they'd bath them. I remember both kids still having vernix around the necks and behind their ears! I'm not sure if they'd allow dh or I to give the first bath...not something I ever thought about...good question. I do know that I don't want it to be done right away...I always enjoy those first few cuddles and BFing right after birth.

i never really thought about it. I do remember though once i was in there visiting... i think the tour.... boy they wash them funny. Under the sink... like they are washing dishes! lol

Interesting question. I'd like to know what my hosptial does....although I'm scared to death of bathing my baby. They are just so small and slippery. I've already made my mom promise to help me with Tatum's first few baths....and her umbilical cord stump...that just freaks me out!

Good question. DS was taken to NICU right away so we didn't have that option.

I'd ask the hospital. Ours does everything in the room and "teaches" the mom.

HMMMm....that is a VERY interesting question. I am going to have to ask my doc too!!!! And my DH of course to see if he would be comfortable doing it....heheheh. I LOVE the idea!!!!

I think it would depend on the hospital and what happens after birth. I don't really remember after ds1, but after ds2 was born, and after his first assessment, I got to nurse him and hold him until I went to my room and he went to the nursery for his bath and secondary assessment. I suppose if he really wanted, dh could have given him a bath during that time before he went to the nursery, but I'm not sure what the hospital would have to say about that. Definately something to ask the dr about if that's what you want to do.
