Emily's birth story finally...
Well, my daughter is almost two weeks old, and I'm just now getting around to posting this.... Sorry I've taken so long with it.
On the 29th of April around 11:15pm my water broke. I wasnt having any contractions or any discomfort at all, and I was a bit nervous at first as I thought I might have just lost control of my bladder. Well, it just kept gushing out, and by the second gush I knew it had to have been my water, because I didnt have to pee.
We gave the doctor a call, and she said that we should head to the hospital. We gathered all of our last minute things around the house, and headed to the hospital. Its a 30 minute drive to get there, and by then I had already started to feel light contractions.
We get to labor and delivery, and get checked into my room. By then its about 12:30, the machine is showing that I'm contracting about every 4 minutes, and they decide to get me started on an IV so that I can get my epidural when I'm ready.
It took four nurses and about six try's to get a vein....
By about 4am I was ready for pain relief! I was having contractions up in the 130's, and couldn't do it anymore. I got my epidural quickly after I asked for it, and at first the relief was amazing. After about a half hour though, my heart rate started to increase, and I felt pretty sick. Emily was having heart decels every few contractions, and they decided to keep me on oxygen. The decels continued, and they tried a few more things to correct it, but nothing managed to work. It was early afternoon on the 30th by now, and I had only progressed to 6cm....
Around 4pm, the doctor came in and said that she thought it would be best to do an emergency c-section to get Emily out. She said labor wasnt progressing fast enough, and she didnt want the decels to continue.
At 5:47pm Emily was born.
She weighed 9lbs 6oz, and was 21inches long. They took her to the nursery right away to check her blood sugar, since she was large for her gestation age.
As soon as I got out of recovery, and my husband and I got our room, she was brought to us.
The had to give her to bottles while she was in the nursery, and because of the breastfeeding had been a but of a struggle, but we're still fighting that battle.
Theres the story! Sorry it took me so long to get it posted.
Congrats again to all the other moms enjoying their new babies!
