Default Elevation Question

Does anyone know if changes in altitude can affect you during pregnancy. I ask because on Saturday we are supposed to leave for Tahoe, CA and the elevation there is 6,000 feet and the elevation where I live is 1,000 feet. I didnt even think about it until someone asked me what the elevation was and would it affect me. I asked my OB if I could go away and she said yes before 34 weeks, because I havent had any problems with my pregnancy, but I didnt tell her where we were going... Any info you have would be greatly appreciated!

I think the only thing you might notice would be a change in shortness of breath. Maybe just be aware of how you are breathing and if you are finding it difficult. Other than that, I can't think of any other issues you might have.
Have fun! Be careful though! When we were flying to San Francisco in January paramedics had to escort a lady off the plane once it landed because she was going into labor. Made me super nervous!

i live in the mountains... BUT i think my body is used to it. (although I have placenta pervia and it does say it is more revelant in high evelations but that would effect you at all) I mean it should be okay. Did you mention to your doc it would be high elevation? I mean i think it be fine.... good luck. Have fun!

I really dont know the answer to that but you should give a quick call to your doctor to mention it and see what she says.

I had the same question when I went to Vail, CO (11,000+) in January (I live in Wisconsin so pretty much no elevation.) My doctor said it wasn't a problem. He said the babies will take the oxygen they need and may leave you a little short of breath. I think he said they have a lot of hemoglobin (or maybe that it is just really good, something about their hemoglobin ). Just stay hydrated. I was really thirsty but I didn't have any problems.

I looked online and all I could find was warnings about shortness of breath and dehydration, pretty much what all the other ladies have mentioned. I think you should be fine as long as you drink lots of water and rest when you need it. Hope you have a great time! Can't wait to hear how it went.
