Caught between a rock and a hard place
As some of you may remember I was having some cramping about 2 weeks ago, slight and did not hurt like at all, but I was having them often like 5-6 times an hour Well when I told the dr. about it she just said DRINK WATER, REST, etc.
Well for the last like 24-48 hrs. I have had BH's like no other and menstrual like cramps that sometimes I need to like breath away* if you know what I mean, I am just boycoting calling the DR. becuase I do not feel like they take it seriously and will tell me to rest and drink water which I already am doing URGH!!
But I am scared that becuase some of the cramps have been painful that they are real contratctions???? Confused*

Re: Caught between a rock and a hard place
I was just watching pregnancy for dummies on TLC.. (dont ask but DH has taken to recording all them baby diaries and stuff from TLC or the discovery channel) ANYWAY, this one is interesting. They do it on each trimester...so we watched the third last night. And BH are VERY common from like 30 weeks on. And You can get them A LOT. It is your body preparing. They were like.... as long as they are not constant every 3-4 minutes.... lasting 30-40 seconds each... than most likely it is BH. (like 2 or 3 an hour of and on every other hour....so one) If they become more constant you should call the doc or go to L and D. Sometime premature Labor does happen and you should let you doc know.... There is a non stress test that the doc can order if they are becoming more frequant.
I would say as long as they are not constant there are no worries.

Re: Caught between a rock and a hard place
Well, I know I'm probably more conservative than others, but I would definitely call if you are worried at all. I'd rather call and have them tell me it's "normal" than take a chance and not call, KWIM? Trust your gut instinct...you know your body best. And I'm really sorry you are feeling like your Dr. might blow you off, but you should be able to call your dr. when you need reassurance or advice. That's what they are supposed to be there for-to take care of you and your baby. (((hugs))) and I hope you are feeling better soon.

Re: Caught between a rock and a hard place
GRR... I totally hear you on being confused about BH!! I hate them so much it feels just like labor to me too, and I swear that I am going to have this baby at home accidentally because I won't be able to tell the difference until he's crowning! Also, I know how you feel about calling the Dr., it seems like they don't really have any answers doesn't it? Every time I think about calling the Dr. I imagine what they are going to tell me (rest, drink more, take some tylenol, and other than that there is nothing we can do, etc.) and I just think forget it. Also, last month when I had the flu, I had a headache that just about killed me on a Sunday night and I called the OB nurses at the hospital (that's what I'm supposed to do) and they made me come in and get checked out. To make a long story short, 3 hours of hospital crap later, I still had a headache and no cure but I went home because I just wanted to go to bed. So after that experience, I'm not too enthusiastic about calling my Dr unless it's a huge emergency.
I'm not trying to tell you not to call your Dr., just that I understand why you are hesitant! Good luck hun, and know that I am right there with you with the BH's

Re: Caught between a rock and a hard place
If it makes you feel better, Heather's advice is exactly right on what they told us in the Labor and Delivery class I went to on Saturday. BH will be irregular (20 min apart one time, 5 the next, then 20, then 7). True labor will be more regular and start decreasing in intervals slowly. Also duration of each contraction. Don't have my notes here, but 30-40 seconds seems to ring a bell for first stage labor.
Have you dropped?
Good luck with whichever you decide. Keep us posted on your health.

Re: Caught between a rock and a hard place
I'm sorry the BH are getting so bad. Really - set your limit of when you are concerned enough to call & stick to it. I went in to the Dr. a couple of weeks ago because the BH felt more like labor than any I've had before. Both the Drs. I've seen since told me I did the right thing - because sometimes the only difference is weather the ctx change your cervix.
I hope they lessen & you are feeling better soon. I'll be thinking of you!

Re: Caught between a rock and a hard place
I'm there with the BH too...sometimes they can be painful and I actually have to stop lecturing! Way to freak my students out! I think with this being #4 though that I get them worse...at least that is what the DR said!

Re: Caught between a rock and a hard place
I would say you are fine, but if you really get worried, call the doc. A few weeks ago I ended up going to L&D after talking to the doc a few times because I was having constant cramps and I couldn't even breath through them for 5-6 hours along with BH contractions. It turned out I was dehydrated and once I got plenty of fluids, the cramping eased. Now I know that I won;t go back fro that but the doc was a little worried. All last week I was have BH's about 5-6 an hour all day long, bu I haven't had that for a few days now, I think it is all very normal. For the cramping my OB said you can take Advil up until about 32 weeks or so to see if that helps.

Re: Caught between a rock and a hard place
UPDATE:
Well after resting all day yesterday, I had a break down becuase the cramping was getting BAD so Dh basically forced me to call the Dr. and I am glad that I did becuase they wanted to see me, I got a FFN test done and when the Dr. was doing I heard a tiny bit of unassurance in her voice and she said the the nurse please get chart, then says to me you are starting to bleed, I need to check your last scan, do you have placenta previa, I said no, my scan showed no and she said that the bleeding my have been due to the FFN but she checked my cervix and it is CLOSED* yeah!! She said that I have to take it easy, I am on full pelvic rest, no lifting, etc. not full bed rest just not allowed to do alot of things........
I am waiting to hear the results of my FFN, how long does it take? Anyone know?
