Icon5 Bladder Question

I'm getting close to 21 weeks and I was wondering if it's too early for my uterus (or baby) to be pushing on my bladder?? It just feels like I have pressure on my bladder and makes me feel like I gotta go pee every hour or so! TMI, but when I sit down, I do end up peeing.....so it's not like I'm getting the feeling and not having anything to pee out.

It also doesn't help that I've had this nasty cough for the last couple of days either. I cough so hard, I think my bladder leaks a little. Eeeck. I got myself a little freaked out last night because the thought crossed my mind, "What if I'm leaking amniotic fluid????"

But I just have this sneaking suspicion that something or someone is starting to push on my bladder. Is it too early for that?

Not early at all! This baby is using my bladder as a step stool or a pillow half of the time....and yeah, I feel like I have to pee every hour...and I do! If you're ever concerned if it's amniotic fluid or not, (TMI)just smell it and that'll be enough to tell you... Also, practice doing kegel exercises and that will help with the incontinence...they'll come in handy after labour!!!

Also, wanted to say too that not all ladies will feel the pressure on the bladder this early...it all depends on where the baby is sitting and how you're carrying him/her. For some it may not happen till the third trimester but then they'll be the ones who have trouble breathing because the baby is so high...

Most likely it is just the baby, but urinary tract infections are also a lot more common during pregnancy. So if you're having any discomfort when you actually go, you should see your doc.
But yeah, I'm definitely having to go much more often than usual already and I am only 18 wks.

Its not too early at all. Your uterus is pushing things around to make room for itself in there including your bladder. I have to go to the bathroom more often b/c of that. I cant let it get as full b/c there is not enough room in there for that anymore!

Not to early at all..every once in a while this one gets a good whack on my bladder and it makes me stop midsentance! I go to the bathroom at the end of every period at school because it is awful to get stuck in the middle of the period and have to go pee and not be able to leave!

Thanks, you guys have made me feel a lot better. So.....a first time moms' inquiring mind wants to know what exactly does amniotic fluid smell like? LOL I've read online somewhere that it can smell sweet, but other places have said that it smells like bleach.

Not sure...with #1, I never knew it was amniotic fluid and I was able to hold it until I got to the toilet...#2, I had my waters broken at the hospital while in labour.....If you really think it may be amniotic fluid, better be safe than sorry and go into the hospital and have it checked. If it is amniotic fluid, you'll keep leaking...may not be a gush like they show on tv and could just be drips since baby could act as a plug.
