Hi ladies. Just got back from my Dr's appt. I am 3 cm dilated, and 80+ effaced. The Dr. said he really expects this baby like tonight or this weekend...AAAGGGHHH!!! Oh, and when he was checking me, he said he did some "extra stuff there" which I can only assume is stripping the membranes, or whatever it is called? I think I have been in denial up to now and I am so nervous now.
So here's the hard part. He said if she didn't come this weekend, he could induce this Wednesday. Or, if by some chance I went past our next appt. on Thursday, he would not want me to go past Monday the 2nd, so he would definitely recommend induction on that day if no baby yet.
On a completely practical and sensible note, scheduling an induction for Weds. would be very convenient. I could have my in-laws come out today and they could stay for the whole weekend & next week. They live out of state (6 hours away). That way I wouldn't be worried out of my mind about Rachel. But on the other hand, I am scared to induce. I hate "messing with nature" and am scared about ending up with a C-section. I also don't want to do something that is going to hurt the new baby.
What do you girls think? I know you can't tell me what to do, but can you tell me how your inductions went? Would you do it again? Thanks so much for any advice. I'm a nervous wreck!
I'm guessing you won't even need that induction. I've never had one myself, so I don't really have any good advice. I'm sure that whatever you decide will be what's best for you & the baby. In the meantime, I'll just send some ELV's your way!
I was partially induced with my oldest girl and I was fully induced with my youngest. Pitocin is a B!#$^, I can tell you that and I've always heard that the contractions are much worse with it.. but I loved my induction last time. I went in at 6:00 a.m. 2 cm. dilated, small contractions like any other day and delivered her at 1:35 p.m.
The good thing about inducing is I was able to get everything in order, get a babysitter for my oldest girl and knew for sure I had a set date. I am a very organized person and I make lists for everything. Maybe try writing your pro's and con's to the induction, talking with your DH and figuring out which is better for your family. Good luck with whatever you decide and I hope you have an easy and fast delivery!

"The day you deliver, outside will be sunny. Your baby will arrive in wee hours of the morning
After a labor lasting approximately 10 hours, your child, a boy, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 8 pounds, 7 ounces, and will be 18-1/2 inches long. This child will have dark brown eyes and a little patch of brown hair."
I'm hoping you go on your own before you have to decide. I've had 2 inductions - 1 for failure to progress and 1 for being overdue. They both went well and I had no problems having both vaginally. It was a big difference from going on your own...I didn't even know I was in labour with David and walked into the hospital at 5cm. During the inductions, I felt like I was dying at 5cm...big difference. Looking back, it was best for each situation. We had babysitter issues too(no parents within 2 hours) and the thought of having it scheduled would be convenient. We had SIL stay with us for the week prior to me going into labour and it worked out.... I hope everything works out well for you too.

i had pittocin with stone... my water broke first though... and this one we have and induction schedule for next wednesday... if i dont go before then. So... I mean a lot of ladies get induced.... seems to help and work. I mean c section are always possible even is a natural birth.... But i bet there are more natural births with induction than not. So, I would let it happen
I hope you go on your own as well!! But I was induced with DD and it was a breeze, everything went perfectly!! First contraction around 7 am, and everything done and baby out by 2:35!! And that included an hour of pushing. I do think it would be harder on you if you're planning to go for a natural deliverybecause the contractions with pit do come harder and closer together...Good Luck!!
Seeing as how you are already at a 3 and 80% effaced, I doubt you would have trouble if you were induced. Most of the problems (from what I have heard) that come from being induced (problems as in c-section) is from being induced without any progress, but you definently have progress. GL!!

that's funny, we are dealing with the exact same situation. I didn't want to induce either, I did with DD and it wasn't the worst thing ever, just not the best. I didn't progress for 12 hrs, and I was so done with being strapped to a hospital bed. But really, now I'm trying to decide if it's worse than another wk pg....
I told Dh I'd seriously consider it next week. I really hope we both go before then!! Good luck, I'm sending labor vibes your way (((((((((()))))))))
I'm also betting considering how progressed you already are you would not have any problems with an induction. However, I hope that you do not even have to cross that bridge. I bet you go on your own!! Good luck!! I'm sure everything will work out for the best!!! KUP!!!! Sending labor vibes your way!!!
Thanks so much for all of the encouraging stories ladies. I decided to schedule the induction for Wednesday so my IL's will come out tomorrow for the whole weekend. That way, if I go early, at least I will have the peace of mind that someone is here for my dd. I know it may sound awful to you all, but I have NO family at all around me. They all live in different states. So the stress of thinking that my IL's wouldn't be here for 6 hours after I called them is more nerve-wracking than an induction. I want to know that my older daughter is safe and sound before I go to the hospital. I don't feel comfortable just leaving her with anyone.
Also I do trust my OB very much and know he wouldn't recommend something that was not in my (and baby's) best interest.
I am hoping it happens naturally before Wednesday, but we will see what this little girl has in mind.
So anyway, thanks for letting me vent and for all of your advice & recommendations. ((hugs))
Good Luck Ann-Marie!!! I truly hope you go before your scheduled induction.....I did just hours before I was due at the hospital....LOL. I know it can be harder but you have really good progress and I think it will go smoothly for you. Hang in there girly!!!! Sending you lots of ELV!!!!
