anyone have experience with swelling?
I'm in a bit of a panic here, I've never experienced swelling with either of my other pregnancies, but just yesterday my feet and legs started swelling and now it is painful to walk. Is this normal? (the pain I mean) And is there anything I can do to alleviate it? Also, is it going to be like this until I give birth? And will it go away when I do give birth?
My Mom told me to watch my sodium intake, but come on, I love salty things!
So many questions!!!

Re: anyone have experience with swelling?
Swelling is defiantly hard to handle sometime. I have been very lucky as I am prone to swelling in my legs, ankles and feet. When they are swollen it is quite painful to walk. There are a few things you can do to help:
1. Try to sit with them elevated for a bit of time
2. Soak in cool water or use an ice pack and then elevate (elevate while useing the ice pack...it makes a HUGE differance)
3. Have your DH rub them after you have soaked them or iced packed them....the massaging will help move the fluid around and make it easier for your body to re-absorbed.
4. Defiantly cut down on your sodium intake....I know it’s hard when you like salt but it truly will help.
Salt is in so many things that you are most likely not fully aware of, I would check all the labels....its hidden in most of our food.
Swelling is also a sign of toxemia.....at your next doc appointment make sure you talk to your doctor....very important. It always starts in the legs and feet and then will move to your hands. I hope you find some relief.
Please keep us posted.

Re: anyone have experience with swelling?
I only ever had swelling with ZIon...and it was only my ankles and feet they were HUGe my one foot was wayyyyyyyyyyyyy worse. my ob said that was common depending on which side the baby lays on...after he was born it lasted 3 more wks just in the one foot. It was strange and everyone would ask me what was up with my foot looked like I broke my ankle and foot LOL!

Re: anyone have experience with swelling?
I had a little swelling w/ Dessa, but I think it was partially due to the hot weather.
Might be good to check in w/ you Dr, too. I hope it goes down soon.

Re: anyone have experience with swelling?
I was a huge ball of water when I was pregnant with ds. I mean every part of me was swollen! But it never caused me any pain. In fact I really didn't realize it until I saw some pics of me and thought OMG I am round!

Re: anyone have experience with swelling?
Just this past weekend I got some swelling in my feet/ankles. However, once I drank more water and stayed off of my feet everything went down. I did not have any swelling with DD, but I did with DS. Looks like the ladies have given you some good advice. Be sure to mention it to your doctor so she can monitor it. If it gets too painful I would just call your doc or nurse line to just be on the safe side. Hope the swelling goes down and you feel better.

Re: anyone have experience with swelling?
I've never had to deal with swelling either. Sorry you are having to this time! A friend of mine just had a baby last month and the last 10 weeks of her pregnancy she was SO swollen! She did say that it did hurt when she was swollen. They kept an eye on her blood pressure and watched for toxemia. She had her little boy on her duedate. Hope it doesn't last the rest of the time!
