Almost freaking out...
So last time we had an ultrasound, the tech wasn't very sure if the cord was wrapped around her neck or not. After looking for a while, she didn't think it was, but just the fact that she brought it up as a possibility was freaking me out a little bit.
I mean, even if it is, it shouldn't cause a problem right now, because babies don't breathe in the womb anyways, they get all of their oxygen from us.
However, the tech said that I should talk to the doctor about it at my next appointment, because it might mean that we would have to schedule a c-section so that the cord wouldn't cause any complications at birth.
I was wondering if anyone else has had to have a c-section because of this? Its kinda freaking me out, because I've never had major surgery before.

Re: Almost freaking out...
I have not had this. But my sister had to have a c-section with her last b/c the baby wouldnt come and it ended up being b/c the cord was around his neck.
With my other sister she had to have a c-section with her daughter b/c of complications during labor and it ended up the reason was the cord was wraped around her body and neck.
I know it may seem scary to have a c-section but really if the cord is around your babys neck, its good to find out ahead of time than to have to go through labor and attempt to deliver and then end up with a c-section.
I think that there are always exceptions to everything, but it seems like the fear of something often ends up being way worse the actual thing you are afraid of. *HUGS*
I hope that the cord comes unwrapped for you. GL!

Re: Almost freaking out...
with DD, the cord was wrapped around her neck twice but we didn't know it until she was coming out but it was no big deal, the Dr just told me to hold off on pushing and he looped the cord over her head a couple of times and then we delivered her. It wasn't scary, but I don't know what your situation is. I've never had a c-section either, but I'm sure that you will do fine!
Good luck!

SO, I dont know... I would ask a doctor i guess. I mean I have heard a lot of other cases as well. so it must be a common thing.

Re: Almost freaking out...
Titus had his cord wrapped around his neck twice. Like Ali said the doctor just said hold off on pushing until he looped the cord over his neck.

Re: Almost freaking out...
I think a lot of it has to do with how long or short the cord is, too. My nephew had his cord wrapped up around his neck and when he just wouldn't come, my sister had a c-s. if they know it's an issue before hand, they can be ready, either way.

Re: Almost freaking out...
I have! I have!
I had to be induced because the baby had stopped growing and after 36 hours of labor, I had a c-section. The baby's heart rate kept slowing down and we weren't sure why. Sure enough, once I went in for the c-section, the ob said the cord was around her neck and everytime she tried to come out it was inhibiting her from coming. Her head was also slightly turned. My Ob didn't think she would have ever come out on her own with both of those. I agree with Megan:

After 36 hours, I was RELIEVED to have a c-section and finally hold my baby! It was a lot less scary than I thought it would be. The recovery is a bit longer but if this is your first, you only have the baby to take care of so you will be fine.
When are you going back to the doc?

Re: Almost freaking out...
It is pretty common for the cord to be wrapped around the baby when he/she is born to some extent. I believe that Sam had the cord around his neck and torso when he came out. The PP is correct about the issue being how long/short the cord is...also how many times it is looped around or how tight it is wound. Sometimes it does cause an issue though and a c/s is the best (and only sometimes) way to go. I think that it's a good cautionary measure for your docs to take to look into it and to be prepared just in case. It may turn out that they just want to monitor you and baby extra close during the delivery and maybe they will be a little quicker to decide on a c/s if there seems to be any distress during the L&D.
I think that your fears are completely valid...it is scary to think that they might be seeing a "complication" at this point and that's enough to make any parent nervous. Hopefully you guys will be able to get some questions answered at your appt...and maybe even see via u/s that the cord is not actually around the neck and that there is no cause for concern at the moment. Either way, the important thing (as you know) is for the baby to have a safe entrance into this world and it sounds like you are all taking the steps to make sure that happens for your little one!

Re: Almost freaking out...
I'll be thinking of you, I would be worrying, too. But I'll bet talking w/ your Dr. will help a lot & you'll know what's likely to happen.

Re: Almost freaking out...
I just talked to my OB about this because on the 3d we had done a couple weeks ago, it looked like maybe it was around her neck, we weren't sure. He just told me thay don't even worry about it at this point. He said they are still doing all kinds of summer saults, and back flips at this point. They are always wound up in it at some point, and at this piont there is no way of know if it'll still be that way at birth. And as for delivery, if it is around baby, they will still try for a vag. del usually. B/c most babies can still be born with it around them. They will just monitor you guys, and if baby or you get into trouble, then they will section.

Re: Almost freaking out...
I had an emergency C-Section with Matthew at 27 weeks due to pre-eclampsia, but I don't think his cord was wrapped around his neck. I had general anesthesia which was a bummer b/c my DH got to meet Matthew before I did. Aside from not having the birth I wanted things were ok, and my recovery wasn't too bad. It was hard having to leave him in the hospital though.

Re: Almost freaking out...
You got some great advice from the other ladies. Just wanted to offer hugs and hope that your appointment brings you reassuring answers!! My dd also had the cord wrapped around her at birth, but was completely healthy. It is really good though that your dr. is taking such good care of you and your baby and wants to make sure everything looks good. ((hugs))
