I was curious if any of the IVF ladies have done or is going to do assisted hatching to the embryo? I was going over my notes from my cycle and I don't think they did it my last cycle...which really stinks because I asked them to. So I'm just curious as to who did it and got a (if you are cycling now carrie & meenu) do you plan on having it done?
TIA!!
Janay

We had it done during FET. That is standard at my clinic because they believe the freezing and thawing process may have a lsight hardening effect on the embryo. Obviously it hasn't helped us, but I think that their numbers support its use in FET cycles. I think they also use it in particular circumstances and for older women.
Hey Janay - we did AH for both of our cycles. The first one, where we only had 2 to transfer, they did AH, but I think both embies were just too poor quality to make a difference. Then our last cycle they did AH on the three embies we transferred and we ended up with K.
Carrie - that's interesting about the AH and FET - I didn't realize they could do that!
Yeah, they say that the freezing/thawing can harden the zona pellucida, so they do it after thaw, before transfer. It's amazing the things they can do! I think ICSI is the most amazing. We haven't had any fertilization issues so far, so we haven't used ICSI, but I think it is just a stunning thing.
Just an update. When I was waiting to go in for ER today, I saw a note in my chart. It said that I was a candidate for AH because this was my fifth overall attempt with 4 neg. hCG and 1 missed AB @ 8weeks. (It didn't note it, but just as an FYI, I had two FETs and two IVF transfers.) When the RE read over the notes before signing off on the plan for my embies this cycle, he told me that if I have any of poor quality transferred, they will use AH on them. So, it seems that they also use AH when you have several unsuccessful attempts of unknown reason. I thought it might be good info to share.
