Default What do you think??

So I have a friend who has twin girls exactly a week older then Logen. She has started feeding them cereal on a spoon 2 times a day, 3 weeks ago. She also gives the 6 ounces bottles every 1.5 hours. She believes that everytime they cry they are hungry. Just last week she started giving them jar food in place of the cereal. I told her that she is over feeding them. And that starting table food so early isnt good for their tummys. She doesnt tell the doc they are on "table" food she just says she gives them a bottle every 3 hrs. Am I wrong? Can starting food too early mess with their stomachs?? What do you all think?? Should I tell her she needs to slow down on their food. They both weighd just over 6 pds when they were born and now weigh a little over 16 pds each.

I'm not sure. My doc said we could start veggies at 4 months. I thought that seemed early but I'm a first time mom and never did this before.

I don't think she's hurting them by starting so soon, but I do agree she's overfeeding them. I've got a girlfriend who has a 9 month old eating every 2 hours around the clock, because every time she makes a peep she "must be hungry." 3 months is a little early to start solids, but if the babies are receptive to it, I don't think it would hurt them.

I agree about over feeding but as for what I dont think is that solids are as big an issue as the medical profession once thought. I am not feeding mine till after 4 months anything but cereal but since our moms fed us stuff at 2 and 3 months and we survived, I dont think I'd worry too much.

I wouldn't think starting on the solids at this point would be hurtful. I know that our dr. said that we could start solids at four months. She does seem to be feeding them a lot - I can't imagine they would need that much food.

She is one of those moms that feeds them as soon as they make a peep no matter if they just ate 20 mins ago. One of the girls still has the tounge refulx cause everytime she would feed her she was spitting it back out and gagging on the food. And my friend would just tell her to swallow it. I love my friend to death but I think shes just tried of them being babys. She went and bought these bottles that have like tubes that run from the nipple to the bottle so you dont have to hold the bottle. She relized that her daughters continous ear infection was due to propping the bottle all the time.

Actually we have the bottles with the tubes as well. They are called posey bottles and with twins they are worth having. That being said, that is an awful lot of formula. I am surprised that they take that much. My girls will tell me when they don't want any more and if they don't want what I offer, they will not eat it.

She definitely sounds like she is overfeeding them. And to me it is way too early for solids. I know people a lot of people were started on solids pretty early and are fine, but with the information available these days saying to wait that is what we do in my family. Heck, my mom did not start me on solids until I was at least 5 months. People used to smoke while pregnant before they knew better too. Anyhow we are all moms and can make our own choices for our kids, but I think she is using food as a soother when it is not always the reason for the crying.
