Irene's 4 month appt. and nursing during vax
So a quick update. Irene weighed in at a whopping 17 lbs. 6 ozs. and 24 inches long. Her doctor called her my little Buddha baby. Anyway, she had blood drawn from her finger and one vaccination. For the blood draw the nurse pricked her finger before I thought to start her nursing. When Irene got pretty upset and the nurse asked if she had a bottle or paci I told her she took neither one. I asked if I could swing her around to nurse her while she got all the blood she needed. She had no problems whatsoever with me doing that. It worked like a charm and Irene instantly calmed down while the rest of the blood sample was gotten (they were checking her lead levels btw. We live in an old house that has lots of lead paint). And then at the end of the appt. it was a different nurse who was going to give the vax. I had already asked her if anyone ever nursed their baby during shots and she no, people just mainly gave Tylenol. I told her I wanted to nurse her during the shot and she had no problem with that either. I sat on the exam table and she gave it to her. Irene yelped out a bit but I got her to latch back on after that and she finished up and did very well. When I got home I gave her a little Tylenol before bed and she slept like normal. She seems her normal self today. I would definitely do it again. I think it helped and I have to say thank you to Jodi for putting up those links and making me think of it a little more.
