Can losing weight bring Wealth?

Posted 03-04-2008 at 06:55 AM by shopdiva74
I am all for making more money. Anyone is. But this is a very interesting finding that I stumbled on. The only way to find out if this is true is to start losing!

Lose weight, gain wealth, study suggests
It can pay to lose weight, a 2005 study by Ohio State University researchers found. The study determined a link between weight loss and wealth gains that was particularly strong among white women. Black women and white men also accrued wealth when they lost weight, but not as much as white women. The wealth of black men was not affected, according to the study results. Author of the study Jay Zagorsky says there’s no way to ascertain whether the gains in wealth were due to weight loss, but the correlation was there.
“The typical person who loses or gains a few pounds had almost no change in wealth, but those who lost or gained large amounts of weight had a more dramatic change,” Zagorsky said.
When a typical young person decreased his body-mass index by one point, wealth increased by only $234. But when a person moved from the middle of the overweight category to the middle of normal, wealth increased by an average of $4,085. “You can’t just drop five or 10 pounds and change your wealth,” Zagorsky says. “If you really want to impact your wealth, you have to move from overweight or obese into the normal range. But results varied dramatically by ethnicity and gender.”
Zagorsky says there may be many reasons for the results of the study. One explanation is that overweight people are discriminated against. Another might be that there are differing standards of appearance depending on ethnicity and gender. There’s no way to tell for sure from the data in the study, Zagorsky said.
The study was originally published in the Econom¬ics and Human Biology journal.

Obesity influences on seeking a job

I read similar news on Plus Cupid. Obese people have some limitations on seeking an ideal job. Also a study shows that those people have lower creativity and work effeciency.
