Since I've been a Writer

Since I have been a writer, I have changed the way I feel about other writers.
I used to think it was very chic to say "Oh I'm a writer." Whenever I heard that term, my mind was filled with romantic images of a leather and mahoghany study filled with fancy, expensive pens and a typewriter. Of course, every writer needs a typewriter. What the heck would I do with a typewriter? Nevermind that I am 33 years old and I've had a computer in my home since I was 8 so I don't know if, other than in my high school typing class, I have ever seen a typewriter. Anyhow, when I grow up I am going to get one.
When I was in my early 20's I realized that I didn't have much to say. So my writing fantasies were put on hold. A more creative way to say that would be that I took a writing sabbatical in order to experience more of life. Yeah, I had to get a little older and wiser.
When I was young I wanted to be a writer so I could tell people everything I thought was important. Now, though, I've realized that no-one, including me, really knows anything so I might as well write stuff down because it's fun. If I follow the rules of the industry (and the language) then I might just be able to make a living from it.
My goal this year is $40k from writing. So far January is at around $100. To be fair, I didn't start making work of it until 2 weeks ago and I didn't set that goal until 4 seconds ago. I am sure the momentum will build.
Give me a little nudge if you don't mind.

Come on; I've got 6 daughters- it's got to be interesting.

Keep it up - it's hard work! Are you freelancing or trying to stick to a genre?
And the typewriter vision is important...don't lose touch with all the marvelous accoutrements of being a writer! |
