Go back   SheKnows Message Boards > Blogs > Chapter 11: Things of Lasting Value

Hey, look! Special notices

It seems I'm the 11th blog on here, so I thought it appropriate to call this Chapter 11.

Life is full of chapters. I can see definate breaks when I look back at my life; turning points. I was glad to be the 11th blog started here because I feel I'm at a turning point between bankruptcy (just going through the daily grind with the only purpose being to make it through) and having a life with a lasting impact on those around me.

I sometimes feel bankrupt emotionally because I have too much clutter in my home... and on my body. It keeps me from pursing things of lasting value. I'm embarking on a journey to change that. I'd rather not post all this on my other blog so here it is. Care to join in the fun, cheer me on, or just see if I can make it?

Day 1 of 30

My little boy will be one year old in 30 days. When he turned 6 months old and I hadn't lost one pound since he was born (I didn't think that was possible) I got serious and lost about 17 pounds. Then we went on a 16 day road trip visiting friends and family and doing lots of sightseeing. Since returning from the trip I have been eating whatever I want and it shows. I tried to get dh to be my cheerleader, but he's not good at that. This past week I said "that's it, we're going to do this, we have no choice".

This is certainly not a lifestyle way of eating, but for 30 days we are doing no carbs. This is just a kick start to get us motivated. During that time I hope to come up with some better meal plans. I have plenty of great cookbooks, I just need to use them.

Last night we had our farewell "snack night". We didn't pig out, but we made sure to have some of our favorite things. Today I've done great. It's 5:00 and we're heading to the kitchen to box up anything that might be tempting to us. Goodbye chocolate mint "oreos".

Good luck!! My baby is 5 months old today and I'm depressed about the weight situation. My metabolism is always so messed up while I'm BFing. :p Still, I'm hoping to start taking daily walks so I don't lose any more ground than I already have!

I'm not ready to no carb yet, since I'm exclusively BF (in fact, my carb cravings are unusually intense right now), but I've had great luck with that in the past and I think you'll be very please with the induction results. Best of luck to you!!

Hope you check back in soon, Mama, to let us know how you're doing. I love BFing, but would love to get back into my "skinny" pants one day soon. Like Betsy, until I'm done with that (and believe me, I'm not rushing -- LOVE BFing!), there will be no carb-cutting for me either. My DD is almost seven months old, and though I've lost 50 lbs, I've got another 20 to go. (The hardest 20... and yes, I gained 70 lbs -- nightmare!) It's definitely something I could get off if I exiled the bread, pasta, and sugary cereals from my house!
