Just an opportunity to post stories and photos of the girls, so friends and family can keep up with us.
Things K Shouldn't Tell Strangers, but Does...
This week, as people were admiring the Rock Star and not her: "I came out first."
In a large public space, mysteriously silent at the time: "I have two moms." She has a whole other imaginary family. They have a dog and a brother, not a rotten sister. She does not have two moms, not that there's anything wrong with that. (Am I the only one who still loves Seinfeld?)
Another crowded public space, to a girl who happened to ask her if she likes Elmo: "Well, I DON'T like Elmo in Grouchland, because there's too much POOP." Guess she meant garbage?

I can't believe I haven't posted for a whole month. It's just crazy busy with work these days, and I am looking forward to a break very soon. We've got some great vacations coming up as well as a wedding or two. I'm also intending to cut back a lot on my hours at work.
--------------
Here is some shameless bragging on my kids now. Feel free to skip on to the pictures if you like.
Tonight we went out to dinner to a Japanese steakhouse where they cook at your table. We were there for almost two hours, and the people who shared the table with us remarked as we were leaving, "Your girls are so well-behaved. You must take them out with you often." (we do, babysitters are expensive.)
We had K's preschool conferences a few weeks back, and the teacher let us know that she tested her with sight word flashcards out of curiosity. K read as far as she had, up to 3rd grade level, "and she wasn't even sounding them out!" This wasn't really a surprise to us, since I have an elementary ed degree with a reading emphasis. I still like to hear it. Too bad she'll still be too young for kindergarten in the fall.
The Rock Star is doing so much! She has all her teeth except the eye teeth already, and is running and climbing. These aren't necessarily motor skills I want her to have, but I guess they're required at this age. She talks a lot. I should try to write down all the words she's saying. Off the top of my head, she says BALL (but it's anything round at all). She's so obsessed with all things round. Book, my shoe (which she's always taking off), baby, sock (also off), shirt, kitty, gog or puppy, kack kack (what a duck says), bumpy, my poopy (sigh), boobee (sigh, but it's also what she calls her belly button), eyes (while gouging them out of whoever she's near), nose, ear, belly, oh burp (sigh).
I guess that's enough bragging. I am just needing to remember some good things because the Rock Star still doesn't sleep more than a couple of hours at a time, wakes often to nurse, and refuses to even consider giving up nursing. I'm not trying to force her, but I'd like it to happen soon. K is also asserting some independence and has been kind of snotty to me lately. She may also have attempted to get rid of her sister a few times. I'm not entirely certain she understood the consequences of letting her sister out into the parking lot (among a couple of other things) but sibling rivalry is high. They battle it out for my attention and every toy, book, blanket, etc., that we own.
Wow, just took so long to do this and realized I haven't uploaded the pictures I intended to use. That will have to wait till tomorrow. Happy Mother's Day to all my cohorts.
