Re: Single woman considering insemination
Good afternoon all,
Thought I'd drop by and give you an update on my situation!
I met with Procrea Clinic in April, and with OVO Clinic yesterday. Now... I need to compare apples and oranges!!! hehe
Both clinics seem reputable, but their approach to my situation was very different (I am 37 now, with fibroids). Procrea was more of a "no problem, we'll use the regular exams, regular process, wanna start only in early 2009, no problem", no more questions asked about my medical conditions (although they asked about what job I had...). They told me that they had a private sperm bank, that they would try to go accordingly to my wishes, but that it could differ a bit. All of that @ 10% chances per month.
OVO, on the other hand, had more of a "medical approach", they did not inquire about my job, but required an extra exam for my fibroids, to see their progression. They also advised me not to wait too long before getting the IUI, as my situation (age and medical) might change significantly during that short period of time. They do not have a private bank, so I will get to browse catalogs and pick what I want... @ 15% chances per month (a little bit more expensive, but money is not a major factor at that point).
So... I am now analyzing both situations, giving birth during the summer is not a good thing for me work-wise as I work in a golf club and can't afford to stop working for a full year(I work year-round, but it's much quieter during the winter, and I could bring the little one to work at that time), I'd rather be giving birth during the winter... but if I have to, that's not even an option, I'll do whatever it takes. In the meantime I will be doing all the required tests, taking folic acid, etc, etc.
My mom is just too funny, I told her last February and since then she refrains herself from buying stuff for the baby!!! hehe I know she'll be a great help when the time comes.
So, that's it for now. I'll let you know more when my decision will be made...
Thanks all for your support!
