Default Re: thrush

Oral Thush can only be treated with a prescription, definitely not anti fungal creams, that will work for a yeast infection around the vagina but still only use externally. Thrush is basically a yeast infection in the mouth. And it is white patches on the insides of the cheeks and on the lips, most babies have some white on their tongues and that is completely normal, you can tell by gently rubbing the white area with you finger or a soft cloth, if the white doesn't come off easily it's probably thrush...It can be pretty painful for the baby and make eating, especially nursing difficult, because they have to suck so much harder when nursing, and if the baby with thrush is nursing the mom needs a prescription as well for a cream for her nipples because she can get there and that can also be very painful and she and the baby can end up passing it back and forth...Not a fun situation.
