A least you went in and got checked out...now you can rest easy tonight knowing that you have not been dilating at all yet! I tend to do the same thing- contract til I get to the hosp and then they slow way down or seem to stop. Not a bad thing, really, except that it makes you kinda look like a nut to some people.
Sorry the nurses weren't more help to you...but you did the right thing.
