These are definitely not for immediate use. You don't want to be doing ANYTHING that could compromise your supply in the first few weeks, including nipple compression!!
I bought some LilyPadz with my second. They don't have to be rinsed everytime, but you should rinse them if there is milk on them when you remove them. I usually wear nursing pads for about 6 mos during the day and longer (maybe 9 mos) at night. I didn't use the LilyPadz every day, but they really are the only pads you can use to swim with (because they are silicone; someone asked)... of course, if you are wet anyway, no one will notice wet spots on your bathing suit... but! if you have over supply issues like I tend to, people may notice the milk dripping through your suit!! ha! (true story; actually happened!)
