I didn't start using a sling as much until my DD was past a year. She is 25 months old now and I still use it time to time. I have a Storch wrap made into a sling and a Didy wrap made into a sling. They are great for holding toddler weight. Actually, I used one of them to carry my DS at the zoo when he was 5. He was about 40 lbs then.
