Icon7 Update on my adoption process

Hi all!

Kristin, thanks for checking in on me on the adoption boards. I thought I'd post an update here since we passed a milestone today.

We had our homestudy interview today!!!

It all went very well. The social worker took a quick tour of our house (we cleaned like demons all weekend!) and then we sat for the next 4 hours and went over our autobiographies and other paperwork that we had to fill out about our parenting plans. The process was pretty painless overall and she was very nice.

We're also done with all the paperwork that is in our control, and are waiting for our last reference letters to be sent in by our friends and I have one doctor's letter that still needs to be written. My doc has been on vacation and now is not returning my calls.

You know what? I had heard so much about how horrible all the paperwork was for adoption, but it really wasn't all that awful. If you're motivated you can plow through it all in a week, but we decided to take it a bit more slowly and complete it over a few weeks.

We started working on our "Dear Birthmother" letter this afternoon right after our interview was over (DP couldn't wait to get started!). We should go into the waiting pool once our homestudy is written up and approved in 4-5 weeks! At that point we wait for a match, which could take a month, or as long as a year. It's totally out of our hands at that point....

Since we don't know when we'll get our baby, we're already on the waiting list at our workplace daycare center. We took a tour of the center about 2 weeks ago and were very impressed with the quality of the care. We're also looking into cribs and stroller/carseat systems since we could have as little as one days notice that our baby is waiting for us to take her home (it's rare, but it happens!).

We're asking for a girl and we're open to girl/boy or girl/girl twins. It's still all a little unbelieveable that I'm really going to become a parent, but it's becoming more and more real with each hurdle that we jump over! We're VERY excited!
