Well I have no advice since my son just turned 3 and he is not even close yet! As for the sitting/standing issue, we have our son sit (when he goes) but we use a little trick of placing him aimed backwards(told to me of more than 1 Mom of boys who have potty trained.) #1 it will more easily convert when they do stand up. #2, it is less intimidating since they have the toilet lid and pot back in front of him so he doesn't feel as he is falling off. #3 any "overspray is up against the pot and most will flow into the potty, which results in less cleanup and less on you if he overshoots. Finally if he is pointed backwards, he is more likely to lean forward onto the toilet seat and therefore the "wee" is better positioned not to overshoot the target.
